Any older Kansas material the band hasn't played live that you'd like to see worked into the set?

Pretty sure the production is up to Zak, largely. I'd like to hear it open up a bit, too, bring the sound more in line with their current live shows. But fingers crossed for Bob Ezrin on the next...
I was just listening to Pattern-Seeking Animals last week and thinking how much Ted Leonard's vocals remind me of Steve Walsh. :lol
The main thing I wish they'd do differently would be to...

I missed the earlier demo releases, but the descriptions and the folks they're partnering with (The Tangent, Bad Elephant) have me totally sold on the notion.
When The Tangent/Andy Tillison get mentioned, it grabs my attention. New band (that's been in the works for a while) have officially signed with Bad Elephant Music.

Kevin, I did not know, and will check y'all out!
Surprise, surprise, turns out South Carolina has some homegrown prog of our own. A bit on the Alan Parsons Project/Asia side of things, which is right up my alley.

I actually dig "Mud" the most. I love punchy, concise prog at least as much as the extended stuff. But yeah, it's a strong one overall. Really, Bad Elephant Music have released several "year's best"...
Even the bonus disc is really good.
The selections this year—prog and otherwise—are pretty fantastic.
Been wondering about that, myself. Those came a little too quickly, I thought, so maybe holding off a little isn't too bad. I'm losing hope for Cooked on Phonics to make it into a set, though.
The production/mix on Empath is the clearest Dev has ever been, without sacrificing the bonkers number of tracks.

I adore that album, lyrics included. They're neither standalone poetry nor pop hooks...they're an immersive, meditative experience.
Knighted, eh. I wonder if he'd accept it?
I love Hot Space soooo much. Innuendo is my #1, though.
I'm gonna have to pick these up one by one, but one by one I shall acquire them all. Gorgeous.

If I could get an issue within 2 weeks of release, I'd subscribe again. But in the US, that 2 month wait just wasn't/isn't worth it (good to know the digital subscription is timely, though...).
I couldn't think of any serious criticisms: MusicTAP (Orange) Vinyl Review
But *is* on the CD that comes with the LP. I guess InsideOut didn't want to spring for the cost of a double album this time around.
Wowee Zowee!
I can do without "Lonely Wind," bit I'm stoked to see Power and Freaks of Nature getting their due. This is a fantastic setlist that just needs some In The Spirit Of Things to perfect it.
I am so, so very into this. 4 vinyl boxsets, here I come.
Both Beatrix Players and Iamthemorning released killer albums in the last 2 years, Iamthemorning has a new music film on the way, and now Marcela Bovio is releasing her second piano-strings-vocals...
I was fortunate to interview Guy Manning about the upcoming Damanek album. Here's a choice bit about matching the production of In Flight with the themes.
Do you have a personal connection to the...
Dang, gotta pull out some Keaggy albums now. I like his voice, too, but he's never been an amazing lyricist. He's a wonderful show live, too. I once snuck backstage (I didn't realize I wasn't...
Ditto. Well, there are a few places where it sticks out and bothers me, but only slightly. And it's not at all the performance, which is great...there's just a different feel when a...
I'm very excited indeed for Proxy. Andy is so great at pushing the music forward while incorporating and commenting on Prog's past (I'm thinking of "Codpieces & Capes," for instance).
I am totally unfamiliar with this band, but this is now the 2nd place I have seen excitement at the news. I'll check 'em out.
Yeah, he was intentional about that with this album, since it examines the career of a 70's progressive/classic rock artist. So, there's certainly introspection and mood all over Lost In The Ghost...
Do it! This was one of my Top 10 albums for 2016, hands down.
Yeah, if you like his previous work, you'll dig the new one.
I hadn't been familiar with Tim Bowness' music prior to the announcement of the new album (that releases tomorrow, February 17), but Lost In The Ghost Light won me over quickly. There's a lot of...
And, good to see others hearing and enjoying the latest from Ben Craven. I wish it were feasible for us to get a vinyl pressing.
I'm glad to see that the new Riverside is making people's lists. It wasn't Top 10 for me, but I like it, and I was afraid that many would overlook it due to it's ambient-electronic content.
This is my list for Progradar, though we weren't constrained to choosing prog albums only. Marillion's F.E.A.R. took the #1 spot, easily.

Confirmed for 2017: Grimspound from Big Big Train and the as-yet untitled from The Tangent top my list. The new Aimee Che Dorval solo record is sounding nice, as well.
Possible for 2017: Both a...
The latest, Transcendence, is a fine place to start. I also recommend the sci-fi ambient country progressive blues concept album Casualties of Cool.
Cool. I hope to see it soon.
I dug it big time, and I'll get the blu-ray. As others have said, very much a tribute/thank you to the fans, and nicely done.
Well, they're not doing the title track, but they are doing "Lamplight Symphony." That's pretty exciting, even if it's a shame to leave out "Song For America." And "Chasing Shadows" instead of "Play...
Oooh, that's a good comparison. I'd rank Drama higher in Yes' catalogue than I would Vinyl Confessions in Kansas', but a helpful comparison indeed.
I completely agree. The instrumental section with guitar and violin is pretty cool, but otherwise...too much of a "this Bud's for you" vibe for it to emotionally land for me. This is one of the...
Ditto. Billy does great work on the aforementioned "Summer," but I miss the dual/contrasting lead vocals. And they could totally pull it off now, maybe even three ways with Rags.
I really dig his gated sound and the use of drum machines. Stuff like "Home By The Sea," "Mama," and "In The Air Tonight"...that was Phil (and co.) Inventing the sound of the 80's.
Yeah, I think the first couple tracks don't set the feel for the album as well as I would like (though I still like the songs), but everything from "Rhythm in the Spirit" on is great. I've listened...
Very cool. Thanks for posting. I was not aware of the Focus cover, so I'll have to check that out.
Oh, it warms my heart to see the positive sentiments regarding Phil. One of my regular rants concerns the greatness (and progginess) of Phil-fronted Genesis.
I dig his voice and drumming, of...
I'm a fan of the 'listen before purchase' approach, though there a couple handfuls of artists who get my pre-order the moment something is announced.
Here's a not-short positive review, for what...
Mostly the classic bands (especially Yes, Genesis, Rush) and the contemporary Neo-prog they influenced (especially Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, and pretty much anything the guys in Transatlantic...
New guy pulling up old thread alert:
If you missed it, this album is really good. File under prog-related, perhaps--it's more on the (extremely well-produced) garage band/alternative side--but...
As a teen, I raided my Dad's cassette collection and found a tape (dubbed from vinyl) with Leftoverture on one side. Actually, it was side one of Leftoverture twice. I listened to that thing so much,...
Thanks!
If this were real I would buy it so fast and feel very pleased indeed.
Very cool! It's a lovely album and I think Kansas fans should be very pleased. I'm looking forward to picking up my vinyl on Friday from my local RS.
Not bad as album rankings go; this feature at least says something intelligent about the 'lesser' albums. I'm quite The Division Bell fan myself, and #7 seems like a justifiable Top Ten position.
