You REALLY should ! And yes, it's available in CD format (Thank You Cunei/Steve)
And everything that was said about it before is true: this record is not just "good", it's amazing ! One of the...
One's loss is another's gain... I can't imagine they went to the trash.
Thank you for the infos and recommendations.
My only real contact with the MMEB was a concert I attended in the early 80ies, during the "Afrika" tour.
I remember I was less than impressed:...
Oh, didn't know that. Sad news indeed.
I know he was back in one of the many later "modern" Curved Air reincarnations.
No "maybe" then unfortunately.
Thus if this event ever happens, the only "original founding members" will be:
ASIA: Geoff Downes
CURVED AIR: Sonja Kristina (+ maybe Florian Pilkington-Miksa ,drums)
FOCUS: Thijs Van Leer (+...
I just noticed I have absolutely nothing from this band.
Which are their 5 most proggiest records to be recommended ?
I actually did that !
The brave little radio survived...
... OASIS didn't.
Along with Lucky Man , Still... was a classic in their repertoire and included in almost all their live sets up to the 90ies (and over ?). Obviously, Greg seemed to like (t)his song very much.
But...
"cricket", the culprit:
You can also hear it in Phil Collins 1st solo record and in some old Genesis tracks (can't remember which ones).
17552
My feelings too.
Some 25 years ago I had the project to re-play "1984" live with two additional keyboardists and a real drummer/percusionist (without the "crickets").
I was unable to locate a copy...
... and maybe others.
But except for #9 and #120 these are very brief (single word or short sentence) mentions hidden into other irrevelant (to 1984) comments.
Others are mine...
I thought 1984...
Only once actually, and briefly (post #9)
"CRickets" = CR-78 (courtesy of Roland, they called it "Guiro")
I concur this sound effect is overused in this record.
Strangely enough, nobody mentioned 1984 so far.
It is usually dismissed by most A.P fans because it's mostly synth based with very little use of guitars, and a prominent early drum machine (Roland...
Strangely enough he has the exact opposite effect on me.
Maybe I didn't tried hard enough. (PLEASE don't ask me to !)
I'm among the few who like her voice on that BB record, it feels good to me too...
And her solo records are worth checking too.
I asked by pure curiosity, not to make any artistic judgment. If it sounds good it is good, whatever equipment you used.
I was mostly interested to know WHICH "tron" emulation you used, since there...
Very tempting well-loaded package.
But I already have the MSG concert CD/DVD and maybe other duplicates.
Still interested though...
Very nice vintage Berlin school inspired track. But I found the the mid-part section (with solo) closer to K.S style than period T.D.
What kind of equipment did you used ? Is the "tron" a modern...
OUCH !!
I don't think it will satisfy the following OP's initial criterion:
...once you get into them you really LOVE to hear more from...
Even after many repeated listenings I can't "get...
Are you speaking about his synth patches ?
Not much variety since decades, and yes some sounds choices are very debatable.
Damo Suzuki (CAN)
Derek Shulman (Gentle Giant)
Gianni Leone (Il Balletto Di Bronzo)
Chris Karrer and Renate K. (A.D II)
Daevid Allen (Gong)
Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)
Frank Bornemann (Eloy)...
No need to be an Audiophile to hear that E.L.O's records are nothing but an indistinct sonic mess.
Why using real (acoustic) instruments if they are unrecognizable, burried into an overproduced...
No, he don't. Selecting the right singer(s) for his ensemble was never Rick's strength.
And there is worse:
In his latest release (Live at the London Palladium 2023 boxset) there is a full...
I was just about to recommend it.
A very good album, a true classic.
Les Mc Cann: Invitation To Openness (1972).
A classic and one of the best in this style.

Visionen is not really a "sampler" but a compilation of (only) instrumental tracks taken from various records. Some of them have been re-worked, edited, or re-played and can't be found on any other...
Yes, I forgot to mention "Konzerte" wich is also very good and recommended.
And I would also add "Visionen", a nice compilation of instrumental tracks.
... and also the opening track introductory melodic line played with a very soft and pure flute like synth sound and short portamento.
(AFAIK) I never heard that kind of sound used by K.E who...
You're not alone.
I'm not a big ELO fan but all their records I have listened to so far have this same heavy, mushy, confused ill-defined "spectoresque" sound.
OK, it's BIG and part of their...
Exactly what I tried to express in my previous post.
You did it much better though.
It's not just about a few similar chords progressions here and there but the overall sound and atmosphere which...
Excellent video and performance, thank you for posting it.
Many,many years later...
His hair has turned white but Franco is still at the top:

There are unmistakenly many ELP influences in the first two Triumvirat records but straight copycat/clones they weren't. Triumvirat had their own instantly recognizable style, in a blind listening...
I think his mid-70ies era is the best, he was really at his peak.
Many good 70ies stuff can be found in the "La Vie Electronique" (live) series.
I especially recommend Volumes 4, 5 , and 6.
...
They are Belgian, not French...
and not from the 70ies either (the band started in the 90ies).
But very good nevertheless, and yes M.H is a fantastic bass player.
...and also:
CHUTE LIBRE
SPHEROE
EDITION SPECIALE
POTEMKINE (Nicolas II)
Not mentioned in your list or above posts but worth checking:
ATOMIC ROOSTER
FRUMPY
Both keyboard (organ) driven bands but including a guitarist and some heavier tracks.
I really like...
Of course a listing starting bid price is NOT A SALE and I highly doubt any of these tapes were actually sold (and paid !) at those inflated prices.
But if you do a completed items (sold /green...
You said "ridiculous" ?
Look at this:
The following Disney classics in VHS tapes are of high value on eBay:
Pinocchio (1993) - $10,000
Dumbo (1885) - $20,000
Beauty and The...
The very high prices you're mentioning were not for blank tapes but for some collectable (factory) recorded movies which weren't re-issued in other formats (DVD, etc...).
Some tittles are still...
Yes, it is. A must have.
The best one in these live series so far, and quite decent sound quality too.
More live recordings are announced, but no release dates yet.
NOTE/WARNING: ...
... only if you like the more softer/lighter side of german progressive rock.
The first 3 records are good (in a light symphonic rock style) then they gradually took a more simplistic/commercial...
You should definitely check what I consider the best modern T.D reincarnation: the british band NODE ( 4 CD's)
And further back in time, the spanish NEURONIUM (Digital Dream, The Visitor, and...
A BIG penalty indeed...
Just Consider it as a two CD set.
From the GG website:
The tracks for Playing the Fool: The Official Live came from four different concerts played between September 23 and October 7, 1976. Recordings from these concerts also...
And that includes me too:
bought the BIG "definitive" (Unburied Treasure) G.G box which isn't.
Then came the S.W remixes (which I bought too). Still waiting for the (pre-ordered) Missing Piece S.W...
I didn't know they were still an active band. A great improvement from their 1988 (!) version.
They should also revisit their 2nd ("Bee Yourself") a concept-album which is MUCH better: less...
The "Krautrock" label encompasses so many different (hard to define) styles that it's nearly impossible and meaningless to reduce it to a "top 10" list.
My personal shortest list would include...
Very few actually.
SCORPIONS : their 1st record (on BRAIN) was psych/kraut but they only went huge when they switched to hard rock.
STATUS QUO and GOLDEN EARRING followed a similar path,...
... and RR's reputation in the prog community is unanimously execrable ! Now you know why.
You must be a VERY dedicated (ultimate ?) Triumvirat fan to impose yourself the suffering of listening to...
"Not too bad" doesn't make it a good record. It's just dull synthetic well-produced pop. I suggest listening to "Song Of The Marching Children" and "Atlantis": is it really the same band ?
...
A few more from my "Prog Heroes Goes Into Eighties" gallery of horrors.
I guarantee that NONE of these records are listenable for any prog (or related) fans, NOT a single track to save, 100% awful,...
"Nothing disastrous" on Cured ? Tastes may differ but it is unanimously considered as the weakest S.H record. Made of 8 short (all but one under the 5 minutes bar) would be "poppy/commecial" songs,...
It would certainly have helped a little but not enough. In The Hot Seat has a decent cover but is still considered by many as the worst ELP record.
When prog-rock became unfashionable many prog...
In the case of Genesis it was a rather deep and radical "modification" but they were technically too good musicians to reach total mediocrity, even if they tried hard in the later part of their...
Don't waste your time with these, really too depressing...
Like you I've read so many negative reviews about Love Beach that I allways refused to check it. The ugly cover art didnt helped either....
You don't need to, and I understand that most (all ?) prog fans here won't share my opinion about this, but this is how I really feel about it.
I didn't expected many positive reactions anyway....
I like Italo-Prog very much and own almost all the records mentioned in your list (and many more).
I like Italian language too but I allways had big troubles with the (male) Italian prog SINGERS:...
I think Hot Seat is actually MUCH worse than Love Beach.
Black Moon has a few good moments but is ruined by Greg's declining voice and doubtful (sound) production options. Still not too bad for a...
