Whilst working with Richard a while back I was lucky enough to hear it...and it's a really gorgeous and very unique album.

I've actually almost listened to this twice through since it arrived on Thursday, which I guess says something.
I love this set. I'm very happy to have something curated for me, even if that means...
There's a problem with the ARP 2600 at the start of this show, with the synth being quite significantly out of tune. Not heard the audience recording for a while but I remember that EEofM sounded...
On about my 10th listen now...really loving it! First couple of listens didn't grab me but gradually it all started to click...with the exception of Love in the Past Tense, which for whatever reason...
They're playing Los Endos...and Chester's NOT playing vibes. He's playing the timbales that are mounted just to the side of the vibes. Same goes for Phil in the gatefold pic of Seconds Out. Pretty...
Thanks for that link^^^^ Excited to hear new versions of the LSO stuff after so long:)
And annoyed at myself for missing the actual event in London:(
Matt.
Waiting for my box to arrive, but listened to the full Rainbow show last night on Prime. Really loved it. Obviously, much of it familiar from Playground Psychotics (an album I love...especially the...
My personal opinion would be that it's better than both of those - pretty sure I'm in a minority with that opinion...although I love UM and BWS tons. If you're not a Flo and Eddie fan then that could...
I really love it. I've been quite happy with SW's solo stuff (apart from To The Bone) and wasn't clamouring for a PT return...but now that it's here I've realised how much I missed getting those new...
Really loving this piece. I stumbled upon this interesting clip on YouTube of Lyle giving a talk at a Uni somewhere a decade or so ago. Interesting for lots of reasons, one of which being that Lyle's...
To be fair, I'd listened to Wind and Wuthering for about 20years before reading (probably here) that Wot Gorilla reprises one of the melodies from One for The Vine. Similar kind of thing though...the...
You've not noticed that the final section of Duke's End is the Turn it on Again chord sequence but with the rhythm altered??? Or did you mean no attempt by them to physically join it together when...
I REALLY hope there's a complete Pleated Gazelle with Phyllis Bryn-Julson...the below track is just gorgeous, which I guess will be in the 200 Motels Box...
...
PFM are an odd band for me. Per Un Amico is literally desert island disc stuff...I just adore every second and after having Photos of Ghosts for a number of years it was one of my favourite musical...
Really enjoyed that...love Forest of Feelings and the Bridge very much.
Had a few listens to the full album now...I really like it. It's a very coherant collection of music that places the sound world on an equal level of importance to chord progressions/melodies etc. It...
Didn't sound too sped up to me...really enjoyable interview. One of the most level headed musicians from that or any era.
Matt.
Which neatly describes my life currently:) The Big Note is really incredible.
Matt.
Really loved that:) And it's reminded me to order the Zappa's Gear book!
Matt.
I need to return to this at some point...I remember getting it just as the craziness was starting to develop end of Feb, and the record sort of took on some of that vibe after which I stopped...
It does...although my English Manticore copy has Lucky Man playing about a half-step (semi tone) too low. Not sure if that affected any other vinyl versions?
Take a Pebble is total magic from...
Pull it out John!:lol
I'm listening now:) I'd forgotten how bonkers some of the Hilliard's contribution is on this. I'm finding parts of it very moving actually. Rypdal's writing here certainly...
Been a while, but my memory of MW is that I really liked it. Very unusual combination of textures. The second piece on that record was more challenging I think. Time to revisit. I've got After the...
And as you know, it was one of my favourite musical experiences ever learning that piece:)
I'm enjoying this...the packaging actually made me laugh when I first took it out:) So there is that...just gotta find a home for the damn thing now.
I loved the early show. Less keen on the late...
I'm guessing you mean Finer Moments??? The value in that record I suppose is mainly that it was compiled by Frank himself in the early 70s and just never released. So it's an alternate...
Interestingly enough, a tiny bit of the melody of Deja Vu pops up again in Flotsam and Jetsam on Gabriel 2.
Matt.
The ER is much shorter...stopping after Zombies, which in some respects works better as a piece for me.
The Mekanik solo on the Trianon DVD took some beating...but I think James managed it on Kohntarkosz. It's scary.
Just out of interest, does anyone prefer K.A/KOHNTARKOSZ/EMEHN to...
I got to see Felicite Thosz live in 2013, which was brilliant.
I got to NOT see Zess in 2003 as there was a really bad snow storm in the UK whilst I was heading into London, so we were a good...
Agreed...that was great. And I also need to revisit Zess after not being too sure what I thought about it. Also I haven't heard Felicite Thosz for ages.
Matt.
Brilliant:) Man...the editing/mixing work on that!!:O
Disc 4 is fairly light on F and E as well..despite having The Sanzini Brothers and not one, but TWO Paladin Routines.
Really loving disc 4 of this set...awesome Pound/King Kong improvs, amazing guitar stuff all the way through, and a killer early Easy Meat. Plus I always loved the documentary style of Playground...
It's pretty wild actually seeing some of this be performed...here's Meditation 2 from Meditations sur la mystere de la Sainte Trinite, which is my personal favourite Messiaen organ cycle - especially...
In the Cage was played at Wembley but not with Supper's Ready in the medley. It was this version with Afterglow instead:

So tempted:lol:lol:lol
Thanks for the thread...and thanks for buying:) Archive has gone down really well...it was lost of fun putting it together.
And yes...Hum 5 (we ARE working on a better title...promise!!) is well...
Mine arrived a couple of days ago. Very impressed with this set...the book is fantastic with all of the unused artwork and studio/live shots from the era. And the essay is extremely informative. The...
Yeah, it's a shame. Three Sides Live really did look great on that restored version. I remember they couldn't find the masters for the In the Cage medley so that track has a noticeably weaker mix...
Three Sides Live definitely had a sonic and visual make over. This looks a little washed out visually...did the box set version get remastered does anyone know? Enjoyed seeing it again though:)
The Visuals concert is just insane! So much wonderful stuff in there...the whole sequence feels like one piece. Some really beautiful ambient moments that sound a bit like early Floyd or T Dream...
Hey Nick
I have Duke from 2016 and Abacab from 2018...both are the Nick Davis remixes.
Hope that helps.
Matt.
I've recently downloaded the hi-res version of Three Sides Live...it looks and sounds great. I wore out the VHS tape when I was a kid, and loved every second...and knew every second and camera angle...
Such a lovely little melody...gets better with each listen:)
I just realised how hard it was to catch those brief key changes via this recording method! Was the lead vocal first??
matt.
Hearing Ron Selico gradually approach THAT drum fill is pretty special:) In fact it's amazing just how far Peaches develops in those 18 takes, considering quite a few are false starts.
Matt.
How was it Nick??? I like the Paperchase clip.
Matt.
I really like that interview. First the unbearable awkwardness...then Frank gradually softens a bit, and the interview starts to flow a bit more. That first couple of mins though...ouch:lol
Wow...what a legend he was. I love the sound of those early ECM piano albums by Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Steve Kuhn etc. Apparently the piano and room were nothing special...just an amazing...
It's really brilliant...agree with all those artists mentioned. In addition, Harmonia particularly came to mind for me. My copy is on the way so I've just been listening on Bandcamp so far. But it's...
I'm not convinced Underwood is there...at least for the concert. Frank name checks Mike and Ralph at various points during the show, and Bill can clearly be seen at the Clavinet in the pictures. And...
Not as such...but there are several long suites that are among Zappa's best IMO. This Town is a Sealed Tuna Sandwich occupies most of side 1 and is one of my favourite things Frank ever wrote. For...
It's a really excellent concert from late '68 at the Royal Festival Hall. The first half is a quite amusing play that the mothers perform (I like its shambolic amateurishness), and the second half is...
Yep, I'd keep leaning in that direction too:) For Calvin is just awesome through and through. TB is a great solo though...but I prefer the Ahead of their Time version as Steve mentions.
Matt.
I first saw Rick Beato with his interview with Steve Vai. The audio is a bit crap here and there, but it's certainly one of my favourite conversations about music on the internet. From around the...
The 2CD versions of Punky, Torture, Pound and Slime are still exclusive to that release. The 2CD performance of Cruising for Burgers does appear on disc 5 but in a different mix without Frank's...
Well, there is that section of the Real Frank Zappa book where he talks about some of his failed projects...one of which being a holographic type of home entertainment system if I remember correctly...
Ralph is simply astounding in the Roxy film/box set. I think the moment when he leaves the kit and joins Ruth to play that ridiculously difficult vibes part at the end of Cheepnis totally amazed me...
It was the Pinder stuff that I used to really enjoy back in the day...especially How is it (we are here) and the Have you Heard suite. The Ray Thomas songs are always a bit funny with me...super...
It looks like an interesting set...although I can't quite figure out why they would honour the shortened version of ZINY on disc 1 as that was mangled by Warner and not Zappa's intended version. Did...
