Maybe not the very best Focus album but it kicks ass. Big time.
Yup, i knew that. I became a fan with the release of a Little man and had already tracked down all other official releases before Ships and Irons was released. I already knew most of the songs.
I liked it too. Its not breaking into any new ground but great fun to watch so far. Above all so far the series hits the right tone. No stupid action, fighting and special effects, but 'a problem of...
Oh shit. Had tickets to see them this sunday in Paradiso, Amsterdam.
I hope PH recovers well.
I bought tickets for this show first for April 23, 2020. It was first postponed to September 8, 2020,...
Great new tune! Autobuy.
OKay then lets give this a try. I will limit myself to 1 album by each band, otherwise it will be mainly Cardiacs albums.
I guess only the first two are pretty fixed, others will vary on mood and...
The first episode is certainly promising. It actually reminded me of a show that used to be on the telly years ago called Star trek.
But on the other hand: I thought the first two episodes of...
Agree? No.
Maybe about half
Bought this today:

A really beautiful mix of jazz, Caribbean music and chamber music. There is even an adaption of a Sibelius...
My score for this, what appears to be the last, bandcamp friday:
Selene Saint-Marie ~ Potomitan
Ghost Rhythms ~ The Empress (single)
5 Uu's ~ The quiet in your bones (preorder)
La STPO ~...
The worst thing that can happen is that bc disappears from google play. Not a big deal. There are many ways to download an app.
Rikard is most definately underused. BBT could use some more of his quirkyness and humour.
And they are touring (a bit of) Europe:
Big Big Train September 2022 tour dates
Friday 2 September – Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury, UK*
Saturday 3 September – HRH Prog festival, Leeds, UK
Monday...
I am very happy with that Ed Palermo Big Band rekkid. I would otherwise probably not have bought it but it sounds amazing. Played it twice in a row.
Its a great album for sure.
My most played HC would probably be 'in praise of learning' but production wise Western Culture is by far the best.
Its been too long since I played this. Have to...
I had tickets for them last november which is now postponed for april 2023. Still hoping to see them.
Ships and Irons has so many Cardiacs classics and is absolutely ESSENTIAL in any Cardiacs collection. Hell, it should be essential in any music collection! It is just missing that coherent album...
Absolutely my favorite Camel rekkid. Was very happy to see them perform this whole album live no too long ago.
btw, I just noticed they are touring Europe next year:
Wed 03 May 2023

I Like the Tangent. I have quite a few of their albums and saw them live a couple of time. Still I do not feel I need to own every album. They DO feel a bit samey, at least to me.
My fav (of the...
^^^^ thanks for the notice. I will certainly get this. I LOVED "Leftover beats" and "Weighting".
Excellent album. This band just gets better with each release. I hope we get another one because if the trend continues it should be a masterpiece.
For me its Veronica in Ecstacy. Love that tune. Almost a bit Bowie-esque.
I liked the first two episodes of the season a lot. In fact I thought it was some of the best trek in the 21st century, although that is not setting the bar very high.
Unfortunately it went downhill...
Great album! I like it a lot but I'd rank it just behind the first two. I still play these 3 album regulary and are essential Dutch prog albums. Iskander and Spiral Staircase not so.
I always understood that Timmy played everything himself xept fot the sax.
Superb album, innit?
For me it also has to be the albums from my teens untill early twenties. I had little money to spend on music back then so the albums I did own I played a lot. Of those albums there are only a few...
My score this friday:
Balungan - Kudu Bisa Kudu (preorder)
Arun Ghosh - Secluded in light
Mary Halvorson - Amaryllis (preorder)
Mary Halvorson - Belladonna (preorder)
Judd Greenstein and...
Sad to read this. Not always my cuppa but a very unique and talented artist. Way too young. RIP.
Whoa! Great news.
Fine album. My favourite of the later period. It could use a bit of 'spice' though.
Rikard's Lyrics are sometimes funny, sometimes not so, but are always about real life. A lot of people swear a lot in real life too. I'll take Rikards lyrics anytime over for example Jon Andersons.
I bought this last bandcamp friday. Its a pretty wild and interesting ride. I still need many more plays to properly digest it.
I have a soft spot for Eloy. I always liked the vocals too. I think that Frank Bornemans voice with his heavy German accent give the music something very distinct.
My favorites are the early...
I saw Roomful of Teeth perform 'Little matchgirl passion' and 'Partita for 8 voices' last night. Two pullitzer price award winning pieces. Fucking amazing. Very glad I went.
I hate summer time. Just when I can cycle to work in full daylight they change to summertime and I am cycling in the dark again. Bloody annoying!
Real (winter) time for me. I am a morning person.
I just bought Here comes the Sunset last friday and already a new one? Oh well, on the shopping list for next bc friday.
Seems a whole lot more then 20 minutes btw
Some great guitar work by Angel Ontalva on the new one. My album of the year so far. (okay, its only march)
I am really digging the new one from Guy Segers project Eclectic maybe band - Again Alors?
I already liked the previous one a lot but this one might be even better. A fantastic bunch of musicians.
...
I fully agree on the the Garage Concerts. The most "essential" live album I own. A must own.
Todays shopping list:
Cheer-Accident - Here comes the sunset
Yang - Designed for Disaster
Ikarus - Plasma
Weserbergland - Sacrae Symphoniae nr 1
Electric Maybe Band - Again, Alors?
Dean...
Sounds like bad news. At first things will stay more or less the same to not scare away the customers but the buyer will likely strive for profit maximation in the longer run
I started a Soft machine binge, played the 1st and second yesterday, 3th today and will played 4th later. Have to decide whether I will continue with the rest of the Soft Machine catalogue or with...
Never heared of Semiramis but I noticed they have an album on bandcamp:
https://semiramisband.bandcamp.com/
I only have heared some Karfagen but that band isn't really my cuppa.
Are there any Ukranian bands that operate more in the avant territory?
Great playlist
Kate Bush - Rocket man
I will be seeing them this May in paradiso, Amsterdam. Still have tickets from 2 years ago.
An absolutely fine debut album from Gentle Giant. Not quite up to the heights of later album but still very very good. Funny ways is classic GG.
See if you can spot the yes quote!
Soft machine, Caravan, Hatfield, National health...love them all.
But what about the new Alco Frisbass - le Mystere du Gué Purcelle ? Best new Canterburish album I have heared in a while! I got...
No Cardiacs, no good.
Wow. Dutch speed skater Ireen Wüst. 5 Olympic games and a gold medal at everyone of them. I think this is a record. Olympic history.
The pogues (by a large margin)
Favorite album : 'Rum, Sodomy and the Lash' or 'If I should fall from grace with god'. The one I played last.
I have the previous one. I thought it was nice and enjoyable but nothing really essential. I will check this new one out.
I liked it and I thought the last 3 tracks sounded pretty impressive. Just 1 spin so far though. Lets see how it holds up after multiple spins.
Yes, but some of the best drum programming I have heared.
Todays score:
Black Country, New Road - Ants from up there
Gabriel Zucker - Weighting
The Delegation - Evergreen
Craig Fortnam - Lunar one October 21 until jan 22 (4 ep's)
Caroline Shaw -...
Yup. Church of your Heart is the other one that I cant really stand. Still plenty of outstanding stuff on this album to compensate.
I was, and still am, a musical snob. As a teen in the early 80ies I liked the Police but in 1983 with Synchronity they got 'too commercial' and I could not like them anymore. Marillion was the band...
