I haven't gotten too much 2018-music yet, looking forward to Sonar, etc.
But I did pick up the new Glass CD, titled "Emergence". Like it a lot so far. Another installment of their own unique and quirky take on (mostly) instrumental Kosmische Musik.

Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs
Amorphis - Queen Of Time
Stuff that I've been enjoying so far that has been released this year. Certainly not an exhaustive list (I've been mining this thread and there has already been some phenomenal recs!!) and not in any particular order...
1-Sarah Davachi-Let Night Come on Bell End the Day
Recently introduced to her though a live performance and pretty much immediately acquired all her albums. This is her latest, very much in the drone space (as all her work is) and quite fascinating as there is an "early music" quality to it.
2-Dodsmaskin-Fiende
On the Cyclic Law label (Dark Ambient specialists) this group sort of diverges from that sound as there are elements of industrial, electro/acoustic and even a touch of metal. Very much a product of the studio, and these guys are masters at arranging sounds and building them up to intense proportions.
3-Kira Kira-Bright Force
A recent Satoko Fuji project but this time, not only does she rip on her signature piano but also adds some electric keyboards to the mix. Half of this is intense chamber jazz not unlike Present or UZ and the other half sounds like improvised work that runs the gamut of dynamics.
4-Alapastel-Hidden for the Eyes
Another new name for me, stunningly beautiful electro-acoustic sounds done in a way that frankly is completely new to me. Alot of this is based around female voice layered over with electronic sounds in a very unusual way. Hard to describe but needs to be heard...really top drawer stuff and will check out some of his other stuff.

Bomber Goggles.
Very good album indeed. Band from USA. Crossover.
Excellent album !.............
Thanks Mike! I ordered Fire - "The Hands" after your rec and subsequent listening session. Looks like I'm on the hunt Mike for 3 out of your top five.
Although 2018 has been slow so far for many progressive subgenres, whatever that subgenre you like Mike is on fire!
For those not following the 'What's On, What's New' sub-forum, the CD of the forthcoming Lady With album, The Lodge, is now up for pre-order:

Will be of interest to all fans of Ghost Rhythms I think. The first Lady With record was excellent so I've placed my order for this one.
Cheer-Accident - Fades and Esbjorn Svennson Trio - Live In London are going to be way up my list this year.
I just recently picked this up. I don't have several of their more recent releases so can't really compare, but for me I would not put in near the same level as Picaresque or The Crane Wife. I need to give it some more listens to give it a fair shake though. I might actually be going to seen them live for the first time next week if I can work it out.
Ryley Walker - Deafman Glance
Not hs best, but good enough to fit in my top 20 of 2018 so far
I still enjoy the band but haven't been blown away by anything after The Hazrds of Love. That said, the run of Picaresque/The Tain/The Crane Wife/The Hazards of Love is some of the best music I've heard. I was going to go see them in Portland, Maine, in June, but I can't get into the last two albums, so I'm skipping.
2 albums to check out is John Holden - Capture Light and Daviesteelman debut album.
New album from Lille's Spectrum Orchestrum is announced:

Autobuy for me. Their improvised blend of jazz, Zeuhl, minimalism, etc should appeal to followers of the contemporary French avant-rock scene(s).
Just received the cd of the new release by Alameda 4-Czarna Woda, with Jakub Ziolek(Stara Rzeka). Two guitars, bass and drums.I'd be surprised if this isn't on my best of list. From the Instant Classic label.

There is a link to order the cd.
I went ahead and purchased Anna Von Hausswolff's "Dead Magic" only because it made it on so many people's list. I have never heard of her before, but what an album this is. I have been playing it non stop for the past three days and I can't think of praising words high enough to do it justice. Dark, haunting, full of emotions but mostly subtle and beautiful. Her voice and style of playing reminds me of Courtney Swain (Bent Knee) at times and that church organ. Oh my...
Are her previous albums as good as this one? Thanks to all of you that have recommended it. A true gem and a very good candidate for a top 10 in the "Album of the Year" competition.
Ceremony & The Miraculous are both equally excellent.
This is one I'll have to have:

Kjetil Moster going head to head with Mats Gustafsson? Sold!
Greetings,
As of now and, as it's my #1 pick at the moment, I'll include one that's not out yet:
1. Eitan Kenner - 8Ball City
2. Kimara Sajn/+1 - The Mourning Past
3. HAGO - HAGO
4. Owane - yeah whatever
5. Tigram Hamasyan - For Gyumri [EP]
Pretty awesome year so far IMO.
Cheers,
Alan
