I really like this, especially since I guess it's what is called a "deep cut" and there are no recordings I know of with The Doors doing it live.

Perhaps by the type of folks who inhabit this site. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, it's something that doesn't exist. Anyway, my prog cred has always been on shaky ground. I'm not losing sleep over it. Oh, and it's probable that anyone who likes the original version of "Rolling in the Deep" isn't going to like the Dirty Loops version much. It's all good!
I liked it! Not as much as the original, but it was a reasonably faithful and respectful version. And there's nothing "white bread" about Mel's scat singing; he was one of the best.
So would I, Fagen being a big jazz fan and all. Not to mention that Torme wrote some pretty good tunes himself.
I kind of wish PeterG would show up and defend his sweeping generalization, but I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.
Oh, just remembered two more great albums of covers:
King Crimson Jazz Trio - King Crimson Songbook vols I and II.
it's white-bred I think it is

To the person who said "I hate covers", think about Bob Dylan, then think about what you just said.
I'm OK if the "cover" does something different with the song. Bob Lind has a wonderful quote: he says "I love it when someone else finds something in one of my songs that i didn't know was there."
Physics nerd Queen cover. This kid is pretty spectacular.

I like this. I wish there was a better-quality version.
a nice cover of a popular Slipknot tune

From before string quartet covers became a cliché:

You mean like Hayseed Dixie? A little of that goes a long way!
Almost any cover by UB40 comes into my classification of WTF. It would not shock me to learn that they had done a reggae version of God Save the Queen (the anthem, not the Pistols' song). Nothing surprises me anymore with UB40.
A buddy recently turned me on to this 20 year old kid who's an amazing multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. There's little doubt in my mind that he's a musical genius.

Bands sometimes cover oldies numbers and think it's really funny for some reason, but it can be awkward. On the new Freak Kitchen they cover Goody Goody and it seems like it's going to be good but it just comes across as rigid. Blind Guardian do some weird covers that rarely work fully. They manage to get some good guitar into their cover of Mr Sandman, but overall the cover fails.
Here's Blood Sweat & Tears doing Hendrix's, "Manic Depression": :)
