Vintergatan will release their debut album in 2013. Meanwhile they've posted an unbelievably awesome teaser video on Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTVEYDZPekM

The band springs from the ashes of Detektivbyrån, who were nominated for two Swedish grammys in 2008.

Evelina is actually a friend of mine from Skelleftea, and lived together with Anthon Johansson from Black Bonzo/Moon Safari for a couple of years. Small world ;)

Anyway, you need to check them out!

The band is from Gothenburg, geezer. It's only Evelina who's Skelleftea represent! ;)

That melody line reminds me of Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World.

If you guys want more music in this vein, Martin's last band, grammy nominated Detektivbyrån, sounds a lot like Yann Tiersens soundtrack from Amélie.

Hey Tobias,

I don't know if you remember the little boy from Scotland who came after the concert in Verviers to you asking for a signature on your CD. The very same, now not so little boy just notified me he wanted Wintergatan's album when it comes out having just listened to it. You have definetily a bad influence on my wallet ;) But I have to admid, the tune is hauntingly beautiful!

Uhhh...isn't that kind of the main melody to the Harry Potter franchise? Am i the only one who caught all those references?

Similar instrumentation, and the dementors and the spell are of course Harry Potter tributes. But it's not quite the same as "Hedwig's theme":

Thank God for that, cause that was some cheesy stuff.

Cool stuff! And another band with an accordion, yet I don't hate it. Aranis was the first one I ever heard that the accordion didn't ruin things for me. Very clever music, looking forward to hearing more from them.

i honestly think BOTH of them are all kinds of cheesy...

And what about KTU/Kimmo in terms of accordion?

Fantastic!! A cross between Isildurs Bane and XL (Finland) with a little Mum (Iceland) thrown in. Can't wait for the full release!!

They're very talented, but a little too "eighties house light" for my taste. (I need GUITARRRRRRRRRR unless your last name rhymes with "Doraz" or "Phlegm 'er, son!") But it's not bad stuff, clearly very well put together, bright and chipper.

That's funny as I was thinking somewhere between Asturias and XL.

What is it about Scandinavian groups because they all seem to have incredible compositional chops. The understanding of melody and harmony are so strong that I wonder if the educational model used there should be adopted all over.

Thankyou! That was the best musical news I've had all year. I loved Detektivbyran and was sad that they disappeared so suddenly without explanation. There may be only one of the Molin brothers in this one, but it still has the trademark Detektivbyran sound. Confusingly I thought that was Anders [playing the accordion and doing the inrto to the band, but on checking their credits its Martin, who didn't play accordion in their first band.

This sounds an awful lot like a mixture of Jaga Jazzist and Efterklang. Quite like though :D

Well, the first generation proggers took their inspiration mostly from Lord of the Rings and the prog youngsters moved on and take it from Harry Potter ;)

I like it, but some riffs & breaks here and there would do wonders.

I got the Efterklang association too.
