Ive been trying to keep my VST's to a minimum (avoiding clutter) but I need to pick up a VST - specifically a good graphic EQ. I tried downloading a 30 band EQ - freeware, nothing fancy. Its a .dll and I took it and placed it into the program files...vstplugins directory, and ran the rescan, It doesn't see the new VST. Am I missing something? I do have other products that Ive been able to add, so I think I know what I'm doing. but its been a while and I may be missing something. Perhaps its just not compatible -

any other recommendations for a simple graphic EQ plugin?

Y,
Yeah I use Sonar and have a bunch of cool processing VSTs. I'll scroll thru my stuff over the weekend and get back with you. Off the top of my head, I thi nk there is a nice EQ in the Abbey Road series.

Y,

In the meantime, check out this site. I've gotten a TON of cool (free) stuff from here.

Which Sonar version? Until recently I had an old Cakewalk which could access VST plugins of the time but couldn't properly access the current crop of VST plugins, so I upgraded this year to X2 Studio for mixing the digestif mygrain project. I find the built-in EQ (probably the one from the Sonitus suite though I can't remember for certain) good and usable (you've heard the results on mygrain).

I am having problems with dropping the VST into the VST folder, and it not recognizing the VST - This is SONAR 8.5 - I'm not ready to upgrade yet, but if I cant get some decent effects working, I'll be looking for a change. Its ridiculous that I had better effects in earlier versions.
