Today is Rememberance Day.
I am not sure how this thread will go down. It may just turn around on me and bite me on the ass.
The reason I say this is that this thread is merely the listing of tracks concerning SOLDIERS and 70s prog/psych bands were not necessarily sympathetic with them.
It was the Vietnam War then and people were living the experience.
It is my conclusion that , contrary to popular belief, the major theme covered by prog bands (of the 70s) is not Myth and all the wizards,etc shit , but war. I say 70's because, frankly I cannot think of many of the new bands dwelling on this subject. Seems to me that with , at first, neoprog in the 90s, the focus shifted more from war topic to social concerns.
And you cannot list soldier songs without including the psych genre as well. Both prog & psych were heavy into drugs and war.
If only for Moe's benefit (whom I believe is on this board with his MASSIVE folk collection) I would like to include (British) folk here as well. (Of the three genres, I find the lyrics the folk movement put out were the deepest/bitterest/harshest. Because, of course, so many were protestors.)
So please list songs about SOLDIERS SPECIFICALLY. Not just about war.
