I saw him a few times at Trenton's City Gardens.

I will always remember those shows.

Sad to see him go, but maybe one day there will be a "Back From the Dead" tour.

Nash has mentioned in interviews before that he was not happy in his days with FM.

My heart is breaking, although I am glad to hear he is still alive as his website had not been updated for well over a year. I have been incredibly fortunate to have witnessed Nash The Slash live numerous times. The "NTS vs. the Easter Bunny" show at the Peppermint Lounge; opening- or rather closing for Iggy Pop on his "Lust For Life" tour as NTS came on around one am, well after Iggy's wild set. Another time at the club Trax, located on 72nd street and Broadway in NYC. Nash did an early 1am set, then vanished for a few hours and returned around 3 or so for the second set. It was there during the intermission if you will, that I ran into Dave Stewart (National Health, Hatfield, Bruford) shaking his head in disbelief at both what he had just witnessed and the fact that he needed to leave prior to the second set in order to catch a flight back across the pond. Having missed him for some 25+ years, I treated myself to a birthday present in December 2007 by taking the short flight to Toronto and catching both his weekend gigs at the Black Swan. The second night, battling the largest blizzard the area had seen in some 50 years. Nash graciously sat and spoke with me for quite some time (without bandages) and shared so many of his musical anecdotes and memories of his life. He was a huge fan of music and musicians and as knowledgeable as anyone I had ever met or read. He discussed his "In-A-Gadda..." covers album and mentioned it would include a version of "The Edmund Fitzgerald.." on it, stating that as Gordon was a national hero, this would cause some kind of uproar there! I think it is one of the most incredible covers of any song ever written. I had so much to say to him, but spent my time listening; wanted to request he do a cover of "Schizoid Man". Fittingly, he must have read my mind! After the first nights performance, I told him that after all these years I didn't know what to expect in comparing these nights to the memorable ones decades ago. When I was asked by Nash how I felt after the gigs, simply put, I told him that if it was at all possible, the shows and his playing were better than I could have hoped or dreamed for. I wish him the best of everything, and selfishly I'm pissed he didn't throw a going away gig.

In his retirement note, NtS mentions his 40-year career. Wow! You would never know it by looking at him. He has aged incredibly well compared to his peers. ;-)

I'm also sorry to see him retire, but I can enjoy the three albums from his yesteryears I have in my collection.

I am not so sure that Nash was that unhappy in his days with FM. Nash is very proud of Black Noise and played a few tracks from the album until his recent retirement. Nash also returned to the band to record and tour with them a few times after his departure in 1978. Nash even released a CD of archival FM material under his label (Without the consent of the other members of the band). I am under the impression that Nash's fallout was some time after the Retrospective tour.
