We had a writing session a week ago and decided to invite our photographing friend to take some pictures. Turned out pretty good:

Much is easier than a normal promo photoshoot. Just ignore the camera and play.:)

Cool! Unlike a lot of band photos I see, you all look very natural and not in the least ill at ease.

What is the other bass besides the Ric? Nice shots.

What is the other bass besides the Ric? Nice shots.

The 12-string is a Waterstone TP-2 and the other is an early 80's Aria SB700 which was originally a 4-string, then it was modded as a 9-string (tuned as eeE-aaA-ddD, like a 12-string bass without the G-strings) and now it's a six string bass tuned like the original six string basses (Danelectro, Fender Bass VI etc.): E A D G B E. It's hard to play normal bass stuff with it but it's great for song ideas as it's basically a guitar tuned one octave lower and since the Aria is a long scale bass (Fender Bass VI is a short scale) it really rings!:) Here it is:

I've been thinking of putting two Danelectro lipstick pickups in addition to the bass pickup and wire it stereo to get the extra baritone twang but to be honest it works fine now too. The headstock usually confuses a lot of people because of the 9 tuners but when it was a 9-string I really had to explain it's purpose.:D

I love live shots. There is something dated about shots where the band is standing posed. Sometimes that's a good thing and often those shots are welcomed several decades later after they go through the current, hip to dated transition. In any event these shots of yours are great. Kudos to the band and the photographer.

Nice pics!

I am very tired of many band photos I see these days. They are all very typical "look badass" or "let's wear sunglasses at night in this dark alley while we wear our leather jackets". Take Spock's Beard, for example. They are great guys and all are friends of mine -- but the photo shoots they do are all the same. Almost every album has new group pics and each time they look like they could be from the same session. They are not the only ones -- there are many other bands and artists who are guilty of this.

Some other overused images are pics of bands:

- in the desert or remote wasteland-ish locale
- on or by a railroad track
- in or by a burned down or dilapidated building/house
