I am once again humbled and overwhelmed by the concern from all of my friends on PE!

Here's the official long-overdue update:

Any of you who saw me at Progday knew I had a pretty bad wound on my right shin from just another stupid old man blunder. I told everyone that this would be my ProgDay swansong due to a litany of non life-threatening crap that was simply catching up to me at 74.

At one of my bi-weekly outpatient appts. to have the wound cleaned and re-wrapped on Oct 22nd, the wound specialist told me that it looked like part of the wound was infected and they should have the ER Trauma docs look at it. It didn't take them more than 10 minutes to admit me as an inpatient and start IV antibiotics that were coursing through my veins for over a week. The following week was spent at an acute care therapy facility where I had physical & occupational therapy.

All of this happened so f*****g fast that I didn't even have a change of clothes or underwear, much less my PC.

When I subsequently found out that if my wound specialist hadn't insisted that I be examined further there was a possibility of losing the leg, she instantly became my Saint Amanda..

Now for the (afaic) happy ending.....I was released today after 2 weeks and have been home for a few hours. I'm plodding through e-mails, voice mails (didn't even want my cell phone while I was drugged out & slowly healing) and a shit ton of snail mail as well.

The biggest difference now is once I start going out again next week, I will be using a cane. I don't need it while at home fortunately, but using a cane beats the hell out of losing a leg!

I truly cannot thank you all enough for your love and concern.

As the Mexican bandit tells Bogart & Walter Huston in "Treasure of Sierra Madre" (paraphrasing), "I don' need no stinkin' Facebook, you friends are more than enough for me".

Love you all,

Geeze

If you go to the window & look out in the direction of Newburyport, MA, you'll spot a reddish glow. Yup, that's all of the novena candles wishing you good health. I feel a bit superstitious about blowing them out but the airlines have been complaining about the blinding light on the approach to Logan.

Welcome home.

I experienced the wonders of antibiotic treatment myself (ok, not an STD;) ) by getting attacked by 5 ticks last spring. Good thing I jumped on it fast, because Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever can be devastating. Geez you have my empathy, nice to have you back:up

I figure I should post this so no one will think I've had a setback or whatever.....

If you only see the occasional post from me for a while it's because while I'm going through both dressing changes (for a few more months at least) as well as physical therapy for several more weeks (all at home), pain meds I don't want to take but have to at least before sleep (anything that starts with Oxy scares the shit out of me) keeping me foggy on awakening for a couple of hours before all the cobwebs are gone, and my kids (thankfully), with their own families & lives to take care of checking on me both in person and by phone, my energy level a lot of the time allows me to load my vape and turn on the TV and that's about it.

I hope to be back to my usual wise-ass verbose self before too long, but I don't want anyone of (what I consider) my good friends worrying ad interim.

I do hope all is well with these guys. I do enjoy their posts and humor.

I spoke with Steve on the phone last night. His voice sounds great, but he's not doing so well. He goes to physical therapy at the assisted living facility, and he's seeing some improvement there. He has to use a walker for getting around. Sounds like he's still having circulation problems, because he's still bruising pretty easily. He hopes to get back on PE soon. His kids will be hooking up his computer shortly. For the last three months or so, it's been idle as his days have been filled with doctors, medicine, and therapists. He sends his best to PE, and he does miss all his PE chums.
