LOVE 'em all!

:up

More Moon Safari in the world is a great thing! Making myself a mental note to check out Genesis Revisited II as well.

I've had a few things all arrive within the past three days:

Moon Safari - Lover's End Pt III.
The Pineapple Thief - All The Wars
Gazpacho - Night
Steven Wilson - Get All You Deserve Blu-Ray
The Tea Club - Quickly, Quickly, Quickly (MP3 release for pre-orderers)

I must say, this is my first time ordering a KScope digibook, and they're really beautifully done! Haven't had a chance to listen to them yet, but I'm certainly impressed with the design.

Can't blame you for that. They're from my country, but I hadn't heard of them either, until Dave K recommended them on PE some years ago.

The December People ~ Sounds Like Christmas

* Listened to most of it this afternoon. It will be a good listen 'round xmastime for sure. For those who don't know, each song (mostly traditional carols) is played in the style of a 70's prog band - prog related in a couple cases. Clever, unique and for the most part well done.

Haven't done this in a while; some stuff I picked up since Christmas:

CDs:
Toshiko Akiyoshi & Lew Tabackin Big Band - Mosaic Select (5 LPs on 3 CDs)
Aparecidos - Palitobombonhelado
Lester Bowie - African Children (first CDR I ever bought, IIRC, since never released on CD and the LP goes for $100+)
Jack DeJohnette - Special Edition Boxed Set
Johnny Dyani - Song For Biko
Elephant9 with Reine Fiske - Atlantis
Ergo - Multitude, Solitude
Folque - s/t (Early 70s Swedish folk-rock; completely blind $6.99 used CD purchase at Other Music in New York and very good)
Mike Gibbs - The Only Chrome Waterfall Orchestra
Goblin - The Awakening (6-CD Boxed Set)
The Group - Live (with Billy Bang, Marion Brown, Ahmed Abdullah, Sirone, Fred Hopkins and Andrew Cyrille)
Grovjobb - Vattarnas Fest (I always lost out on ebay auctions so I was happy to finally find one on Discogs)
Guapo - History of the Visitation
Jasper van't Hof's Eyeball - Jazzbuhne Berlin (with Didier Lockwood)
Keith Jarrett - Nude Ants
Elvin Jones - The Complete Blue Note Sessions (8-CD boxed set I managed to lose at the Montreal Airport. Luckily some beautiful soul turned it into Lost & Found)
Karenautas - Recrea
Rudresh Mahanthappa - Gamak
Harry Miller - The Ogun Collection (5 LPs on 3 CDs)
Mostly Other People Do the Killing - Slippery Rock!
Angel Ontalva - Mundo Flotante
Don Pullen - Mosaic Select (4 LPs on 3 CDs)
Alex Schlippenbach - Monk's Casino (3-CD set performing the complete works of Thelonious Monk)
Manfred Schoof - Resonance
Subtilior - Absence Upon a Ground
Damo Suzuki - The Fire of Heaven at the End of Universe (with Hoppy Kamiyama, Tatsuya Yoshida and Yuji Katsui)
Sadao Watanabe - Mbali Africa (another excellent blind used CD purchase)
Kenny Wheeler - Song For Someone
The World Heritage - Travelling Silk Road

LPs:
Barefield/Holland/Tabbal - Nickelsdorf Konfrontation
Popofoni - s/t (early 70s Norweigian avant-jazz with Rypdal, Andersen, Stensson, Garbarek, etc and not nearly as good as the lineup suggests)
Sensations Fix - Time to Decide (late 70s archival recordings has the band sounding like Foreigner; just awful)
Charles 'Bobo' Shaw's Human Arts Ensemble - P'nk J'zz
Stomu Yamashta - Freedom is Frightening

I have an update on one of my recent purchases, and its's for the 4 disc "Inferno: The Divine Comedy" set from Colossus. I'm nearly through all of disc 3, and this is just a killer set of symphonic prog. If you like the Colossus collections, you HAVE to have this! Even if disc 4 falls flat (I highly doubt it) this has been well worth my money. Actually I only paid about 33 US dollars for the set, a great price on Amazon. Not sure if they have any copies left. Synphonic carries this, I think for 50 bucks. Now I know I have to get parts 2 and 3, each a 4 disc set for Purgatorio and Paradiso, and I do see them on Amazon.

BTW, Amazon does have all 3 sets on MP3 for 17.98 each, a steal. But if you know the Colossus sets, they come beautifully packaged, so you are missing out if you just get the Mp3's.

I have their companion disc "Bridge", plus Fantasma, which both are very good slabs of Prog in the Symph/Metal vein. I've been waiting for a copy of North to show up on ebay at the right price as I've heard good things about that one - their most recent as far as I'm aware.

BTW, hope it's okay to add comments to this thread!

Yesterday I got: FM - Black Noise
Today: Sweet Smoke - Just a poke - Darkness to light
Funny detail, when I was much younger I bought Just a poke, because I liked the drum-solo I heard in the store. When I played it at home, I didn't like the music, so I returned the album. Now I like it and I don't understand why I didn't like it when I was young.

Whoa, that was a pretty sweet deal, FrippWire!

On the way home from a work trip yesterday I made a quick pit stop at a music store that is usually too far away for me to frequent and I picked up these for about $5 each:

City Boy - Young Men Gone West
Kansas - s/t, Masque (never owned or heard either one!)
Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation (never owned this one)

So far I'm quite pleased with all of those purchases. I think I prefer "Young Men Gone West" to "Book Early", which is the only other City Boy album I have.

The two most recent:

Wolf People - Fain
I think the best description is folk-rock similar to early Fairport Convention, only with a retro heavy psych sensibility. These guys love nasty fuzz-tone guitar, so that's a big part of the sound. The lyrics lean on the vague/evocative side, but the music is so good it doesn't much matter. This music is all about feel, and that they have.

Djam Karet - The Trip
To me, this is classic DK. The album is one long forty-seven minute track. Just sit back and enjoy the trip. One the whole, it is a mellower DK release, folding and spinning from one weirdness to another. They pick up the pace at the end, though.

Both albums get a big thumbs-up from me.

I've bought very little of late. I finally got around to getting the ZZ Top "Six Pack" as MP3's, which is a comp of 6 of their first 7 albums. Deguello is not included, and I already have that on CD. This is the set where they remixed it, and lots of fans don't like it. But I'm not a purist and don't mind, plus it was real cheap, under 25 bucks. I wanted to get this when it first came out, which I beleive was the early 90's. Glad I finally got around to it after all these years. I'm loving the early stuff, especially Rio Grande Mud. Great band.

It's a 3 disc set, and the CD's were far more than the MP3's. Maybe there was a used set, I don't take chances on those.

Nah, I'm so far from a purist, the reverb and other changes don't bother me much at all. I've listened to all six albums and can only heard a couple songs that the changes hurt it much to my ears. Not worth buying these albums again, and I'm happy I didn't spend much to begin with. I did delete one song, a track called "Leila" off of El Loco. One of the worst songs I've ever heard! They were trying for a pop ballad and failed miserably. Not one of their better albums, but still some good songs there.
