View Full Version : Not feeling well...

I just wanted to post here before my doctor visit today. I'm having some heart related issues -it's been going on for a couple weeks. But the past couple days have been a little worse. I'm kind of expecting a short hospital stay and some tests. I don't think this is life threatening, but serious enough to be checked out. I do start to feel better every so often, but the same issues return. I got through Christmas, but I think all that holiday eating did not help much. Still don't regret it of course, but I have to take some better care of myself. Hopefully this is something minor. I don't want a repeat of three years ago, where I only spoke to immediate family, and then disappeared for a month while recovering from two heart procedures. I left a lot of people wondering that time. So basically, those of you who pray, I'd appreciate a few prayers. Those of you who don't, at least keep me in your thoughts. Hopefully I'll be out soon, maybe just a change of meds. Talk to you guys and gals soon.

Tom

Godspeed on your recovery, man. Puts my deal into perspective - I've been dealing with my health plan providers over the past week for what I first thought was a minor Urgent Care wound treatment matter (minor toe cut) that is now turning into something, no thanks to diabetic neuropathy, that is now looking like it was created by the make-up staff for the Walking Dead...

Take care, Tom. Hope all is well. Good health to you. In a way getting older sucks, or at least means working harder at taking care of ourselves. I've also found out arguing with bodies never works. The body wins all arguments hands down.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement. Still in the hospital here in Priceton, typing on a terrible keyboard. Second time I'm trying to post this. While my heart is affected, it might not be due to my heart condition. It could be as simple as acid reflux or something related. But that can still get complicated when you suffer from "a-fib"and muscular dystrophy. But I'll get through it.

Even chronic heartburn can be serious, especially when combined with other ailments. I take a daily Rx for acid reflux along with HBP meds.

But I'll get through it.

Glad to hear that it seems "manageable", (easy for me to say I know)

I see an old cookie crumbling with your Jankees, and look forward to it playing out in the baseball thread with you on board

Dealing with a lot of illness with friends and acquaintances presently, none of the 4 seem likely to have happy endings

Had an "unspoken goodbye" call with a bud a few weeks ago - fucking brutal

I'm back home!!! Thank goodness, a computer keyboard that actually works! My doctors do believe it's acid reflux, but I'm going to schedule appointments with my heart docs as well as with a GI doctor. I've been more focused on a low sodium diet, and over the past year or so ate a LOT of foods that are highly acidic. Over the next week or so I'm cutting all that out completely, and then will gradually try a few things to see what I can actually have without feeling horrible. I'm going to take Nexium or something similar, along with occasional Maalox, which seemed to help in the hospital. I wont go to extremes with this and stop eating all the things I love, but some moderation wont be difficult. I just want to feel better, so I'll do what it takes, hopefully without any radical changes.

Yes, I was quite impressed with the place. I've had good care at the old place, but it's nice being somewhere so new clean and shiny, and lots of new, state of the art equipment. And all the rooms are private, which is wonderful. They did goof with one thing, and went cheap on the room marker boards, you know, where it has the name of the nurse and aid. Of all things to go cheap on, they can hardly erase anything, it gets all smudged up. Other than that, very nice as far as hospitals go. From the outside it looks like a hotel, and inside is no disappointment. They have a ton more space, nothing feels cramped there.

word up , all that and you may just need some Nexium. I've heard good things about that hospital along with the new Capital Health hospital in Ewing. I guess "good" is a relative term when talking about hospitals. One hopes you never get to experience how "good" or "nice" a hospital can be.

Good to hear your back on the mend Thomas.

Plainsboro? Isn't that where Dr. House used to practice before he faked his own death and rode off into the sunset with Dr. Wilson?

on TV it was a fictional hospital. An actual hospital in Plainsboro, NJ, didn't even open up until the TV show was off the air.

Glad everything worked out for you man !!!

You have to be careful about what you eat - - - I can no longer tolerate lots of stuff that I enjoyed in my younger days, it's a sad fact . . . but fairly easy to manage. The holidays are a tempting time of year to over indulge . . . that's for sure !!! jk

Exactly! Now some of my doctors (I have way too many now) have offices either in the hospital or in attached buildings. This is so much better for me, as some of the old places were really not all that wheelchair accessible. Plus, in some cases I can plan more than one doctor visit in the same day. So the new place is a good thing, but yeah, I don't want too many visits there.

Yeah, I read that story! I'm just glad the doctors didn't tell me to give up alcohol. I don't drink much as it is, maybe a drink or two a couple times a month. But I did just treat myself to a post Christmas gift, a bottle of Johnnie Walker GREEN label! Can't wait to try this, but I will wait until I'm feeling more myself. Each day gets a little better. BTW, has anyone here ever had JW BLUE label? I'm a novice scotch drinker, so I don't think I'd appreciate it at this point, plus, it's over 200 bucks a bottle. But I already like Black label, and some single malt scotches. I think this bottle I bought of the green will last me a good decade with the way I drink.

Yeah, getting older sucks. Still, medical science keeps improving too, so all these little ailments are becoming more tolerable.

I just may do that. My brother that I see all the time is really getting into scotch, he's even gone to some tasting events and already know a lot more than I do about the subject. I still like my occasional craft brew and wine, but scotch seems to be the natural progression, and I already like it.
