Stevie Ray Vaughan (on the same bill as Jeff Beck!)
I saw The Who three times when John Entwistle was still with us (also saw Entwistle's solo band in 96)
I saw Rick Wright with Pink Floyd on their last tour in 94
I saw Pip Pyle play with both Gong and Hatfield And The North
I saw Jerry Garcia and Vince Welnick with The Grateful Dead twice in 90 and 91
I believe the keyboardist who played with Hawkwind at NEARfest is no longer with us
I saw The Outlaws on that first reunion tour they did in 2003 or 2004, I think it was, a few years before Hughie Thomasson died
I saw Allen Woody perform with The Allman Brothers Band twice, once with Blue Floyd, and once with Gov't Mule
I saw Brad Delp on the last Boston tour before he passed away, in 2004, I think
I saw Carl Wilson and possibly Dennis Wilson (knowing this was not too long before he passed away, I'm not sure if he was still touring or in what capacity if he was) play with The Beach Boys in 82, I think it was.
And I saw Doug Walker several times with Alien Planetscapes and a couple other groupings.
Also saw Louis Boone play with Born To Go two or three times
Saw Huw Lloyd-Langton last year (or the year before?) when he toured with Brainticket and Nektar

Jerry Garcia - While it was a shock at the time, it really wasn't. He had been going downhill for quite some time before he died and sometimes i wondered how he was still alive. Still, before his time.

Dan Fogelberg - not that there is an "age" in death but he went far too young. The irony is in that he fought for our Mother Earth well before its "time" and Mother Earth took him well before his time.

Brent Mydland - continuing a tragic trend for Grateful Dead keyboardists, his participation made me the DeadHead that I am. Talk 'bout way young, 37. Sad. Sometimes the demons win...:(

Jaco Pastorious - another one who couldn't get past his demons and yet another that went too young.

Richard Wright - What a gentleman, he shined on that last Gilmour tour.

Danny Federici - another gentleman.

Clarence Clemons - ditto.
Dee Murray & Bob Birch (of the Elton John Band)
Michael Hossock
Duck Dunn
Mark Craney
Ben Orr
Howie Epstein
Norton Buffalo
John Entwhisle
Warren Zevon
Ian Dury
Cozy Powell
Vince Welnick
John Glascock
Keith Knudsen
&
Michael Dunford - and though there is no living emotion in death per se, this one hurts the worst personally, especially after the totally triumphant presentation of Novella and the new stuff. The 2nd coming of Renaissance only to screetch to a totally unexpected halt. May they all RIP...

And, wow, my list went from the original three that I posted on to nearly twenty-five after a multitude of editing after looking at other posts/lists. How the heck am I still alive? God is good, God is great.

Peace,
Alex

Dude, you can't say that there's no quality on that list! That there is a who's who of dead folks. Don't get snobby just because you saw Hendrix. ;):p

Hey, your list is already proof that size doesn't matter. I'd hate to see what you forgot. :) :O

I grew up attending concerts when you were probably busy raising a family. The thing that I felt most daunting as I was compiling my list is that the deceased are starting to outnumber the living.

However, just saw McCartney at age 70 a month ago and it just blew me away.

Carl and Dennis Wilson, with the Beach Boys.

I can't think of anyone else I've seen who has later carked it, at least not anyone who was the main attraction. I believe at least one member of Elton John's original band (Dee Murray) has passed on, and I've seen Elton in concert several times so I probably heard Murray play at least three times.

Well, Chris was very much with us with this thread originally appeared 3 years ago. But yeah, I saw him a bunch of times.

And of course Daevid Allen, I saw him play solo a couple times and several times with Gong (and of course there was the Gong Family Unconvention back in 2006)

There's also Ronnie James Dio, who I saw play with Dio (on the same bill as Scorpions and Deep Purple) back in 2002, and then again with Heaven And Hell just a few short months before he passed.

And I know there's Banco Del Muteo Succorso's singer, who passed away last year, I think. Saw them twice at NEARfest. DIdn't someone from PFM (who I also saw at NEARfest) also recently pass away just recently too?

English folk guitar legend John Renbourn also passed away recently, I saw him play with Jacki McShee at a nice little jazz club down the street from my house.
