Roger Waters, The Who, Sir Cute Beatle, Springsteen, The Rollimg Stones, Clapton and more. Broadcast live around the world on many tv and internet sites starting @ 7:30pm est. A Nirvana reunion of sorts with Macca fronting the band has been rumoured. Should be a ton of interesting pairings. I've heard this will last into the wee hours.

For those who have premium channels, I'd recommend HBO in HD..
without "commercial" breaks.
BTW, It begins at 7:30 EST tonight on a shitload of channels..
but many of them may pause for breaks, also HBO runs it 'til 12:35am.

Watching it on MSG cable. Good to see Bruuuuuce not only kick it off but get out of there early. Hoping Slowhand reunites with Waters; "Comfortably Numb" solo was awesome on the "Pros & Cons..." tour.

Watching this just confirms that I'll never be a Springsteen fan. Guy flat-out can't sing.

He does look really, really good, however, and his band is pretty solid.

Having seen the Quadrophenia tour many years ago, I passed, but I'm anxious to hear Daltrey post-surgically, since a lot of people are saying he's recovered not all, but a big chunk of the higher part of his range.

Springsteen is freakin' awesome. Eddie Vedder gets around. He may have started out as part of the grunge movement, but over the years he's gained sort of an honorary 70s rocker status and gotten to rock out with Neil Young, The Who, Roger Waters and others. Go Eddie!

The time between bands/acts seems to be organized really well, short turnarounds with great impact video and some cool MCs. Adam Sandlers' "Allelujah" was a brilliant rewrite... loved it!
The EC acoustic opener probably added 4 minutes to his time on stage as the band backline was being finalized. The logistics of this mega star night must have been a nightmare of status / pecking order... who'd have thunk the Stones appearing midway? I'm figuring many will join Sir Paul for the finale on a Beatles classic (or medley).
Daltrey and Townsend also kicking serious ass and NOT in wheelchairs!
As Jagger said... SO many old British rockers (and mods) on one stage the same night.. unbelievable!
Excellent synching of Kieth Moon footage on Bell Boy... nice tribute!
Meanwhile. the various sound engineer(s) must be in living hell.

I 'spose a "few" people liked it... for me it was a chance to clean up the kitchen, take a leak, rewind and set-up for the next REAL artist. KWs' "set" shows the world (again) that there is no substitute for real talent... Keith Moon proved that... even after death (long before hip-hop)... HE and Zak Starkey together kicked KWs sorry ass!

Yes Paul rawwwked. Opened with Helter Skelter and then another which I don't recall the name this moment. He also did Blackbird that was ok but his voice was a bit trashed after the first couple. Did some Wings stuff, including Live or Let Die at the end. Overall a very energetic set and was really surprised by the energy he put in it.

Meanwhile. the various sound engineer(s) must be in living hell.I wouldn't be surprised if they used a shared backline for most of it. So much of that concert was big solo stars backed by hired-hand bands, and playing on rental rigs is what hired hands do. They'd bring their own axes, certainly, their own pedalboards and preamps, and their own snare drums and maybe cymbals - but otherwise, Pino Palladino, say, won't complain if they give him an SWR instead of an Ashdown. For drums, you just get a large kit and most of the drummers will pick out half of it and only use what they need. Although I do wonder about the keyboards: While they'd certainly have a grand piano, a Hammond, and probably a Rhodes and Wurlitzer available, that's about it as far as standardization of keyboard rigs.

I was one who had to retire. I understand Paul & the Nirvana guys did an original tune. "Cut Me Some Slack". Then it was just Paul on his own after that. One website described the original song as "bluesy, & like Paul's harder Beatles/Wings compositions with a bit of Nirvana's melodic edge".

NO, but then again, MSG is in NYC.

Better late than never...
They opened with "Who are You", went into "Bell Boy" with Kieth singing from the screen with a salute from Roger as Kieth faded away, then they went into "Pinball Wizard" which segued into "See me, Hear me" as hurricane relief footage was portrayed... nice synchro all round.
Next up was an energetic "Teenage Wasteland" with all the trimmings, before the contrasting "Love Reign over me".... which brought them to their 30 minute mark exactly, but not the end of the set...
With just Pete on acoustic, Roger added "We'll have some Tea"(? sorry if that's not the correct title) to close the set... then Pete shouted "Have a fuckin' beer" at the very end.

BTW, The McCartney set was:-
Helter Skelter, Let Me Roll it, 1985, My Valentine, then an acoustic solo Blackbird before being joined by most of Nirvana for a jam on "Cut Me Some Slack". Together, they then did "I've Got a Feeling" before ending in a pyro finale of "Live and Let Die".

I have a theory, partly clued in by Sean calling it quits when The Who finished at 10:00 pm CDT. After all the shitstorm NBC found itself in after they covered worthless boy bands in the Olympics closing ceremony and didn't air the Who until after the local news break, the promoters decided to not repeat the mistake. Have what should be the explosive finale just before bedtime. Then the remaining acts for those able to stay up and reward them with Sir Paul.

Tea & Theater was the closing Who song. That was from Endless Wire. I, unfortunately, missed McCartney, who I really wanted to see but had some work to do. A friend has it recorded so I will get to see the whole thing properly. Clapton was the highlight for me from what I saw. He always steps up his game when he is the only guitarist. Was not expecting the trio format.

My wife kept wondering why Daltrey, at his age, should bare his chest. She thought he was entirely too old for such behavior.
