Gong-could have been.....
very strong indeed … i was expecting something along the lines of nightwish/tarja (otherwise much to my dislike) but, knowing the festival, looked for something far more leftfield. very powerful performer, great backing band with a strong shoegaze vibe. force to be reckoned with.
Cool. Hopefully she'll be through the states at some point and I'll catch her. Thanks for the report back!

Crimson was a very impressive beast in Montreal this past summer. I enjoyed Hackett in Gatineau, Quebec last winter.
Vancouver area shows, my faves of the 37 shows I attended
-Booker T Jones -seemed to be his life with r&b, played some songs that influenced him, his hits, a song each by Muddy, Jimi and Prince. Nice to have a Leslie speaker on each side of the stage
-Jean Michel Jarre - the lights overshadowed the music imo. Stunning. I was unaware of the laser harp bit and that dropped my jaw
-Colin Linden - a master of roots guitar, sat 6 feet away
-Shayne Koyczan - A first nations poet, emotionally tore my guts out and then made me bust some guts laughing
-5440 - Canadian band I hadn't seen in 30 years and have always enjoyed, they more than delivered for me
-Wishbone Ash - saw them in a recording studio, both old and new songs still sounding true to their old days
-Jeff Martin solo acoustic (of The Tea Party)- strong voice
-Steven Wilson - more quality from the guy
and - a wedding where the Wedding March was played by three members of a 70s prog band; I will not divulge names
I remember tomorrow
^^^ I remember 5440 back from the 1980s during a very brief blip of US attention they got. I believe their name came from a US imperialistic slogan from a long time ago that we were going to annex all Canadian land south of 54'40'' latitude, which would have been, well, most of Canada. Cool that they are still together and playing.
And, c'mon, you gotta spill the beans about your wedding band...

I'm kind of a Bruckner fanatic, my fav composer, have seen almost all of his symphonies performed live over the years. I used to have a subscription to the StLSO and both past conductors Leonard Slatkin and especially Hans Vonk performed Bruckner fairly frequently, so I've been fortunate. I'm actually going to travel to see my fav, the epic monumental 8th, performed by the Cincinnati SO early next year because I haven't seen that one in a long time.

Shows that I really enjoyed that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more..

I think the Philadelphia Orchestra performed the 8th a little while ago in Philly. I remember telling my wife I really wanted to go to hear it but work got in the way as usual. I think one of the main things I want to do when I retire is go to concert halls and hear pieces like that performed live.
Decided to cut back on concerts this year
Fri March 9 Dixie Dregs Scottish Rite Auditorium, Collinswood, NJ
Sun Jun 3 David Crosby Majestic Theater, Gettysburg PA
Sun Aug 26 Ed Palmero’s Big Band Long’s Park Ampitheather Lancaster, PA
Saturday Sep 16 California Guitar Trio All Saints Church Frederick. MD
coming up . Sun Dec 16 Brand X Orion Sound Studios Baltimore MD
I agree, and I think my love of epic long prog tracks like Suppers Ready, Awaken, CTTE etc also attracted me to Bruckner's symphonies when I heard them. Interesting that Bruckner started out as a Catholic church organist, and his symphonies have that "cathedrals of sound" influence, the slow building of momentum that leads to epic brassy climaxes pacified by peaceful calm reflection. Music that has very extreme dynamic range, which builds excitement, something I think Genesis and Yes to name a few understood. So I hear a lot of "prog" influence in those symphonies.
Kansas last weekend. We got comp seats that day and it was a miserable shitty rainy night and the Kansas singer was sick so they postponed the show until March 2019.

Hiya Steve,
They were at the Red Museum in Sacramento CA on Jan. 26 ...Fortunately they are still as brain melting as ever live, Gentleman Surfer's keyboardist is a big fan and got them to come to our little cow town.
