The Official SeaProg press Release sans pics

Hark, aficionados of adventurous rock music in the Pacific Northwest and beyond – Seaprog is elated to announce our 2019 festival headliners: Trettioåriga Kriget, Marbin, and District 97! Read on for the tantalizing details. Festival passes are on sale now. (Single-day tickets will be available after all bands have been announced; nontaxable donations are also welcomed anytime via Seaprog's nonprofit fiscal sponsor Shunpike at the same link.)

    Trettioåriga Kriget (Friday, June 7)
Trettioåriga Kriget (“Thirty Years War”) is a Swedish progressive rock band formed in 1970 in Saltsjöbaden, southeast of Stockholm, while they were still teenagers. Their first album came out in 1974, and from then until they temporarily ceased activity in 1981 they were one of the most prominent bands in Scandinavian rock. In 2002, the members got back together for some reunion shows and to record a couple of new songs for a planned Best-Of album, but found that they had more to give. They came up with a full album of new material, and have been working ever since. Seaprog is proud to present the third U.S. appearance of Trettioåriga Kriget, and their first on the West Coast

    Marbin (Saturday, June 8)
Marbin is an incandescent Chicago-based progressive jazz-rock band with a unique story that stands out in today’s music world. With a do-it-yourself approach, Marbin started touring extensively in 2011, bringing their original instrumental music to every part of the United States. Through word of mouth, Marbin has gained the attention of thousands of devoted fans all over the world, and has sold tens of thousands of albums. The band regularly plays in clubs all over the U.S. and in jam and jazz festivals around the world, and has released nine albums to date on MoonJune Records and other labels.

    District 97 (Sunday, June 9)
District 97 was formed in the fall of 2006, drawing upon influences ranging from heavy metal to avant-garde jazz. After working instrumentally for a time, the group decided to add a vocalist, and recruited the powerful Leslie Hunt. With their hard-hitting melodic sound, they’ve been thrilling audiences at festivals in both North America and Europe. The band also collaborated with John Wetton, first in the studio and then recording a live album with him in 2013 that contained classic King Crimson tracks.

wow, that's a great addition, long time Rocket Scientists fan.
I was shocked to see Eric Norlander with his former long hair cut quite short. He was auditioning SampleTank 4 with Jordan Rudess at the NAMM convention.
What's next, Keith Richards without a cigarette in his hand.

Interesting - have they ever done live shows? (This is Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian and Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth.) Their couple of albums weren't all good, but they had at least a few great songs.

EDIT: Looking a bit I see they've been slowly working on new material. Cool!

Surprised someone else has not already mentioned this one unless I have missed it elsewhere on the site.

Bang on a Can and MASS MoCA announce today the launch of our new, three-day music festival called LOUD Weekend, presented for the first time from Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4, 2019, at MASS MoCA in North Adams, located in the Berkshire mountains of western Massachusetts. Dozens of concerts will take place in the museum’s vast galleries and throughout its stunning collection of indoor and outdoor performing arts venues, over the three-day period. Early Bird tickets are available now for $60 (3-Day Pass), for a limited time.

LOUD Weekend is an expansion of our long-running Bang on a Can Marathon, tripling that inclusive and ambitious programming from one day, to three days.

Highlights of the inaugural Bang on a Can LOUD Weekend at MASS MoCA include:

    · The electric Bang on a Can All-Stars performing Field Recordings a major multi-media concert of endless ambient textures, film, and electro-acoustic forays into the future

    · Ben Frost’s visceral and maniacal Music for 6 Guitars featuring Ben Frost, Daniel Reimer, Dither Guitar Quartet, and brass sextet

    · The incomparable and outer-planetary Sun Ra Arkestra

    · Dracula, the timeless, classic, original 1931 film brought to life with Philip Glass’ acclaimed score, featuring Michael Reisman of the Philip Glass Ensemble

    · Brian Eno’s pre-ambient classic Discreet Music performed by Contact

    · A communal, open-to-the-public, all ages and skill levels performance of Pauline Oliveros’ Sonic Mediations

    · A hypnotic other-worldly odyssey solo set by electronic multi-instrumentalist and singer Julianna Barwick

    · The just intonation electric guitar driven Baltimore band Horse Lords

    · Pioneering composer-singer Pamela Z’s unique blend of operatic bel canto and live digital looping

    · Composer-singer-instrument inventor Lesley Flanigan’s live sonic sculpture

    · Special guest composers Annie Gosfield, Tristan Perich, Brendon Randall-Myers, plus music by Bang on a Can co-founders Michael Gordon, David Lang, Julia Wolfe, and more

    · Performances by Gregg August, Vicky Chow, David Cossin, Mark Stewart, Ken Thomson, Brad Lubman, Nick Photinos, Todd Reynolds, Lauren Radnofsky, additional solo sets by Ben Frost, Michael Riesman, and many more

Does sound good and interesting. And it sure is scenic out that part of Massachusetts.

Looking forward to my day in court.
