    It's because overall the USA is not as "into" metal as Europe is. We also I believe tend to have a tighter definition of what "is" a metal band here and most musicians only work in one or two bands at a time. It's not unusual for musicians in Europe to work in several bands at once. And there's more of us. If there were 2000 metal bands in Finland or Norway and 2000 metal bands in the USA, the US would not have as many metal bands per population as the other two.
