    New Releases Only

For those of us who want to keep tabs on new releases that often get underexposed, I am starting this thread that is formally dedicated to new releases. I frequent some other forums and really like AAJ's long running "new releases only" thread, so I'm going to emulate something like that here.

So this thread will be solely dedicated to current releases and confirmed upcoming releases. It can include new material, reissues, archives, etc. However, any excessive self-promotion, debates about the music business, etc. will be removed. It's the purpose of this thread to be a continuing news feed of information on current and new releases.

I'll get things started with a few.

    Archive - Axiom (May 27)

Latest release from this UK group. Their music is sort of a mix of Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, and Porcupine Tree. This latest project Axiom comes with a companion DVD which is essentially the film to the soundtrack (or vice versa).

Opeth - Pale Communion (August 25)

Looks like the date was pushed back, but looking forward to this much anticipated album.

    Fire! Orchestra - (May 30)

If the track on the page is any indication, this could be an album of the year candidate.

Cool, that seems like it should be available very soon. I wasn't familiar at all with Knifeworld until that recent PE thread. I like what I heard.

That is not the cover art for the new Opeth album. :/

Anyway, my first submission is the new double-concept album Epitaphe from Gens De La Lune, who some of you may know as Francis Decamps' band. Ange fans take note!

Should we restrict this to rock and prog or is any genre welcome here?

I think the only restriction would be to keeping it something that could use exposure and would benefit some of us by mentioning it.

I'll take that to mean yes, any genre is welcome in this thread.

Interesting. This band is doing all classic-Ange sounding material.

Hot off the presses! This video posted minutes ago and is the first track off Strattman's debut album, Lie of the Beholder. It features the awesome Nick D'Virgilio on drums. Enjoy!

I Agree. But Prog Related and Crossover Prog should be ok.

Freaking awesome, I assume this is Jean Paul Prat's follow up to his fantastic Galgal album. I don't see any vendors carrying this yet, where did you get it?

One I recently got is Grand General
excellent instrumental Prog slightly reminiscent of Mahavishnu but not as wreckless
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

That's a great CD! I ordered it back when it was first mentioned here on PE.

I've seen their name around here for a while but I never checked them out until I saw that video. Wow. Not sure what to think of them. I can't even decide if I liked that song or not, but it really was a tremendous piece of music. Is the rest of their material like that?
