Obscure 70's American Prog Albums

Still, I don't consider them really obscure. They may not have been considered "prog"albums, but the groups were hardly obscure.

At high school teen center 72-73 there was a band called ZED who I remember did different cover songs than the usual bands. Sometime in the 90's or 2000's I found a used album the band put out in the 70's. It was actually decent progressive rock, but I don't know if they did anything else. They had a female lead singer.

I used to see that album in used record stores fairly often back in the 80s.

It’s hardly a classic, but I really do enjoy that Chakra album. It seemed to be a lot like an American version of that Gemini album (Counterbalance), i.e.: trying to be an indie version of UK. I think it was slightly more successful in that, unlike Gemini, they weren’t attempting it on cheap Crumar synths.

I would agree. Underrated. I suppose that in the shadow of Mirthrandir, Yezda Urfa, Cathedral, Lift, Hands, Babylon, Easter Island etc. stuff like Chakra and Earthrise seemed all too pedestrian or simply unspectacular to really have much appeal even with the inside crowd.

While hunting I found a very recent re-release of Easter Island on SHM-CD by https://www.discogs.com/Easter-Islan...elease/8484694.
It looks though as if they used the same extra material as on "Now And Then".

Hardly an "obscure" stuff , but nevermind 'cause some legendary U.S. Prog acts as e.g. Cathedral are already mentioned in this thread as well.
