Guess I'll add my two cents, not including any bands that are still putting out great albums consistently, such as Thinking Plague, Glass Hammer, Kenso etc...: or any artists with just one album (Ske, Ere G, etc... )

XTC - Nonsuch (couple greats on A.V. #1, but not as a whole)
    GG - Interview (" ")
    F Mac - Heroes...
Renaissance - Azure D'Or (yep love this one)
King Crimson - Power To Believe (first four are my favorites, but can't deny that this one is great in its own right)
    Genesis - Duke
    Bo Hansson - Magician's Hat
    Santana - Welcome
Arti & Mesteiri - Giro Der Valzer...
    Kate Bush - Sensual World
    Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun
Peter Gabriel - Up (could be the only one of his I find great throughout?)
Sarah McLachlan - Laws of Illusion (could be the only one of hers I find great throughout)

Blue Oyster Cult - Agents of Fortune
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
Dixie Dregs/Steve Morse - Industry Standard
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone

    I think it's pretty solid
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

WIND AND WUTHERING!! Every single album after W & W was made by a different band IMHO.

So then how many bands made those 7 or so albums?

Solid is a good word for 'Tusk'. But 'Heroes...' is one of three F Mac albums I find great

I love the people who are posting a band's first album here. How can they be one of your "favorite" bands if they held your attention for one album?

The criteria is last "great" album. Maybe they think all of their subsequent albums are "good" and still like the band.

    IQ - Frequency
Echolyn - The End is Beautiful
    Horslips - Aliens
Be Bop Deluxe - Modern Music
    Angel - Helluva Band
    Chicago - Chicago V
    Humble Pie - Smokin'
    Spiritual Beggars - Earth Blues
    Pagan's Mind - Heavenly Ecstasy
Fu Manchu - The Action is Go
    Clutch - Robot Hive/Exodus
Monkees - Birds, Bees & Monkees
    Manowar - Kings of Metal
    The Sword - Apocryphon
    Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses
Wo Fat - The Black Code
    Tiles - Presents of Mind
Yes - Going for the One

[IQ - Frequency (seeing a pattern with these first four? Their latest is their most recent "great" one... maybe not their best, but their last great one)]

They actually have one out that is more recent than that called "road of bones" which was released earlier this year.
