Thread: Movies - where we can talk about movies

  1. #2076
Oh. Didn't realize that was such a legitimate question.

I think the answer lies in what the "other" format is. If it's 70mm (and I would hope that it is), it's the equivalent of digital vs. analog (tape is probably the better analogy than vinyl) (and 4K on two-story-high Imax is probably more analogous to CD, but regular theater dimensions is probably fine). I'd see it in 70mm, just because I'm an analog junky. (I deliberately saw The Master in 70mm because I could.)

Well it was very good and the picture and sound were really good too. It wasn't 3D but it was perfectly fine. As for the movie itself well I have never seen anything like it. I'd say it falls into the top ten sci fi movies I have ever seen(easily).

so... how is the "4K" one shown if it isn't on celluloid???

    bluray disc???
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

There are digital projectors, just like many people have at home (e.g. D-ILA). Except theater resolution/theater quality/theater brightness/etc.

Just got the new Bluray of Sorcerer (1977).

It looks amazing and comes with a great little booklet.

Hope no one was too interested in seeing The Interview.

Watched Boyhood last night. It was a nice movie, but I couldn;t help watching for the disaster that never happened. In hindsight, it was fairly boring. The idea of filming a movie over 10-15 years with the same actors is unique, but the plot itself left something to be desired.

Zero interest. I love the fact that artists are now complaining about losing artistic integrity, what for the piece of nonsense?

If you don't like movies like Superbad, Pineapple Express, This is the End or even (Kevin Smith's) Zack & Miri Make A Porno, then yeah, you won't care about The Interview.

Me? I was definitely going to catch a matinée after the 25th. The trailer's hilarious. Sony cancelling the movie is bullshit. To do so because some email says any and all theaters that show the movie are subject to terrorist attacks is to succumb to fearmongering of the worst kind. Those assholes know they can't hit us militarily, but they're certainly doing a happy dance because they now know they can hit us elsewhere.

I wanted to see it, and I'm incredibly disappointed that some theaters chose not to show it, which prompted Sony to delay its release.

There is a zero possibility that North Korean terrorist attacks on theaters would have ensued.

Sony has cancelled the release. Completely. No dvds, or torrents, or screenings or Netflix/Hulu/Amazon etc. As if it never happened. So much for freedom of expression. So much for we don't negotiate with terrorists. In the words of Stan Marsh (South Park), "I thought this was America."

Sony has not definitely stated that they canceling the release. In fact, there is speculation that it will be released on DVD or the Netflix format in the coming months.

Now a Steve Carell movie about an American working in NK has been yanked, too.

I hope it still gets a theatrical release somehow. Or maybe it will become the biggest-selling DVD release in history. That would rock.

    Ok, what've I seen lately...

    "Into The Woods" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2180411/?ref_=nv_sr_2
From the nearly 30 year old play. A fantasy, comedy based on age old fairy tales; Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack & the Beanstalk, Rapunzel with a lot of singing. A lot of singing. Lots of fun. Easily will get a Best Picture nod for the Oscars.

    "Whiplash" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2582802/?ref_=nv_sr_6
This one's for all the drummer's around here. And those with a passion for the drummer. Powerful showing by JK Simmons as a music conservatory instructor pushing his students way beyond their limits. Especially drum student Andrew; played intensely by Miles Teller. Look for JK to get a Best Supporting Actor nod.
On a side note, I caught "Whiplash" in Sony's private screening room. Lots of talk by company executives regarding "The Interview". Mostly about the hacking of company files and personal information than the movie itself. Lots of damage control needed; they're looking to offer employees, at all levels including actors (parts big and small) free identity protection for at least a year. As a start.
