Yeah, the Crazies wasn't bad. The relationship between the sheriff and the deputy was well-written.

A different animal than the original Alien, more like an 80s action flick ala Terminator, which James Cameron also directed.

Right on. I think Alien is a horror masterpiece while Aliens is an action masterpiece.

    Expressed very well, IMO.

I always saw a parallel between those two films and their sequels. In both cases, the first one was all suspense and horror and totally devoid of any humor while the sequels were action flicks with a healthy dose of comic relief in the mix. And of course, they're both rarities in that the sequels were damn near as good as the originals.

The first 2 Alien movies are the only Horror flicks I've ever seen that weren't pathetically laughable... total classics!

    saw Gaslight last night

even though you know who the bad guy is early on, the film draws you in... wish the ending were more psychologically vengeful

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Which version of Gaslight, the 1940 British or the 1944 US?

liked the original Alien but didn't Ashe the robot clearly state that the alien could not be killed, that it was the 'perfect organism'? funny how they've been able to kill the bastards in every sequel.

    Yup, Ashe did say that.

hmm... didn't know there were two! this one seemed very British with bobbies and Scotland Yard and all... but it had Joseph Cotton and Ingrid Bergman so I'm not sure

    That's the 1944 US version.

Re-watched "Pirate Radio" recently, one of my favorites. A romanticized version of the "pirate" radio stations operating in international waters off the coast of England in the 60s. These were the type of guys that inspired me to want a career in radio when I was growing up (a really bad decision in hindsight). While the story is a bit far-fetched, the acting is superb and the soundtrack is fantastic.

Also caught "Flight" on Amazon Prime. Denzel Washington is able to take a guy that is basically an arrogant douchebag and make him into a sympathetic character, which I guess is why he's one of the best film actors today. The opening sequence depicting the airline accident that propels the story is pretty amazing.

I have Pirate Radio in my to-watch pile. Sounds like it will be good.

Streamed this Canadian thriller on Netflix last night.

It wasn't perfect, some troubling plot holes but very good acting and dialog. And kudos to Emily Hampshire to be not as hung up on nudity as American actresses.

You need to see movies like Rosemary's Baby, Psycho, and The Shining.

saw 3:10 To Yuma (the original) for the first time and found it better than I thought it would be
I suppose movies don't get to be classics for nuthin
