    Fjokra - amazing new singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist

Anyone ever heard of this Irish musician and/or his band?

1 way to describe Fjokra's music

“Todd Rundgren in Genesis listening to Muse while hanging out with Queen, Sikth and Quincy Jones who are all shagging Prince in Rush’s private studio on LSD dressed up as The Beatles mixing Psycore jamming with The Manhattan Transfer in a lost Gershwin musical somewhere in Iceland”- Dave Wibberley

    another one I find noteworthy:
"sex music for metallers." -Peanut Baines of the Kaiser Chiefs

Here's the newest single "Infinite Loops" which will be on the upcoming Thoughtsteps EP coming on June 9th.

    Some other genre bending tracks:

pretty nice EP. A lot of vocal distortion and industrial parts among others. I can hear the Devin Townsend influence even more from this EP (incl the 2 bonus tracks).

new dark, twisted, psychotic video for "Get Amongst It" which fits the tone of the song quite well.

That first description had me until it mentioned The Manhattan Transfer and Gershwin. Not that there's anything wrong with Gershwin, but...

Sorry, but to my humble ears, it sounds like "Rap New Wave" or more accurate "Crap New Wave" circa 1982-83.

Note - I actually like a lot of early 80's bands. But this is just some guy rapping over a cliche new wave beat/song.

I listened to a few of the clips.

    100%: lame/forgettable/uninspired/tripe

....and seriously needs to be moved to the WOT forum.

This was pretty cool man - I dig it. Interesting arrangement and nasty ideas on this. Nice stuff!

thanks for insights JKL2000. I'll be sure and pass it along to the band on twitter (as they actually follow me) and mention you plan to see them live and tell them in person soon.

I went into it with an open mind, but this is legitimately among the worst music I've ever forced myself to sit through, and I listened to everything in this thread. This Dave Wibberly guy just pulled names of artists out of a hat in order to attempt to come up with a description he thought would be memorable while showing off his supposed knowledge of music.

That's cool that they follow you on the Twitter. If they play a living room show near me I'll try to catch them.

Great new tune. This guy seems hard to peg down. Definitely some 80's pop in there.

Plays an eight string guitar. Roye Albrighton did as well. Interesting stuff, some of it for sure. Thanks

The song with the rollerskating video had me restless for the first couple of minutes, but once I zeroed in on the idea that with Orzabal’s vocals this could easily be a Tears For Fears song I felt better about it and enjoyed the latter half. So it's not dire or anything - I've bought worse - but I don’t hear anything progressive, and certainly nothing to justify any degree of hype.
