    How are theses examples of word play? I like the Elton John title, I guess it's clever, but not sure that counts. What does Machine Head even mean? As to Genesis, the correct title is "A Trick of THE Tail".

    Machine Heads are the tuning pegs on a guitar or other stringed instrument.

    OK. So how is that "word play" exactly? Lot's of very clever word play mentioned in this thread. But Machine Head, I must be missing something.

    Word play here is dual meaning of the phrase.

    How about these lines in the Hammill Song Earthbound;

    Heartbreak the anagram:
    (But hero Dan had no brute boar hunted;
    doubt he ran but heard no burned oath;
    undo breath, do burn hate, be hard unto
    burned oath, undo breath...)

    Earthbound.

    Add me as another who doesn't understand how "Machine Head" is a dual meaning. I don't see any pun - it's just a term for part of a guitar that also happens to make a pretty cool title, isn't it?

    There's loads of cute wordplay in Genesis lyrics. Just a few from SEBTP alone, some of which may not mean much to anyone outside Britain:
    Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout; Beautiful Chest (arf!); robbing hood; karma-ma-mechanic; Silver Cloud; jam on his Rolls; safe way home; fine fair (fare) discount; Tess co-operates (also Tess Co-operates)...

    I always thought this line in "Come Together" was really clever:

    Got to be good looking 'cause she's so hard to see.

    Rush's song "Anagram (For Mongo)" comprises line-by-line word play.

    Ian Gillan often uses word play in individual lyrics...Deep Purple album title ABandOn fits OP's criteria.
