Note that Henry's post made it clear he was referring to the first four albums. "Close To The Edge" (the fifth) is where they started going "let's try to take longer than Simon & Garfunkel took to make 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'", which Bruford hated. That modus operandi was retained for "Tales", which I believe also took a long time. I get the feeling "Relayer" was comparatively quicker to make, at least once Moraz was on board, and that "Going For The One", again, took forever to make, and certainly to release (Wakeman rejoined in November 1976, allegedly while sessions were already ongoing, but the album didn't come out until July 1977, although when the sessions proper ended seems unclear).
