    "Essential" Rush boots?

    Looking for some recs please

No particular tour, just the best sounding FM's and boards

I know of "Black Forest", Wembley 88, and Philly 96, but haven't collected these guys

    Favorites?

    TIA

Black Forest is the top of the list, IMO. The Tucson '78 show is also great. But, there are plenty of others. What eras are you most interested in?

They are for my best bud, I believe sound quality is the over riding concern, (not interested in audies, just soundboards or FM's)

Well, those two from '78 are amazing soundboards. But, there are others. So, any particular era?

There are some great audience recordings out there that should not be ignored.

You could start here, which is a listing of what's being traded. That way, you can sort out what you might want to look for.

    http://db.etree.org/db/shows/browse/artist_key/525

Click on the year. Then click on the date. Then click on "List Collectors" and you'll see a link within each listing for details.

But, once again, if you cite an era, people will recommend shows.

You can also go to Sugarmegs and listen to a bunch of them. They are available for download, but the bit rate is really, really low. So, it's really only good for online streaming. But, you can hear the sound quality of some here.

Scroll down to the Rush listings.

Thanks Ron, I will try and use that site as a bit of a reference, but I'm really not sure what tours will float the dudes boat

He doesn't like most of the later studio releases but goes to multiple shows every tour and seems to love them live in spite of that being the case

There are SO many soundboards around it isn't even funny, especially from the 90's onward

I'd previously pointed him to Black Forest, which he loved, so I also suggested Tuscon assuming that would be appreciated

Just looking for everyone's favorites, I can look up info on them from there

I have an SB from the Capital Center in Largo (Landover), Md. 1984-09-27, which is excellent, too.

There are a couple of SBs I have from Allentown, PA (79-80), which are also worth having.

No one's mentioned St Louis 1980 yet? Great set list, great performance and possibly the best sounding Rush RIO available. --Peter

Very nice offer Ed but no thank you - there are many MP-3 sites around and all the key shows can be found pretty easily so he's covered

Didn't that one just get released semi-officially?

Yep, which is why I didn't mention it. We just had a thread about it. It is great, for sure. I think "Black Forest" sounds better, if I were to nitpick.

That's okay if you can convert them back to flac. They say mp3's lose some quality.

No sense in converting MP3 to FLAC. It gains nothing more than file size. Once it's compressed, it cannot be uncompressed.

Well, it's been debated to death but FWiW to me there is zero difference between a 320kps rip and a Flac / Wav

I've kept my thousands of CD's, but my "mothership" computer that serves as a media server throughout my house is loaded with MP-3s only

I was far from my home in Laurel in the wilds of Kentuckey in basic training when this show took place. Would have liked to have seen it.
