Just about anything from John Zorn, especially his 'Moonchild Trio' discs. Of these I suggest "Astronome", "Six Litanies For Heliogabalus", and "The Crucible". Italian band Area also fits the bill, especially "Caution: Radiation Area", "Crac!" and "Maledetti".

Shame on me for not mentioning them, I love both discs I have.

In terms of symphonic fusion, I'd add Italy's DFA.
EDIT - Just now I see the video posted shortly before mine of DFA.

Have Ligro from Indonesia been mentioned yet?

Check out their drummer Gusti Hendy as he engages in a bit of Bruford-ish stunt drumming.

And here's one off their last album:

I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Just discovered this veteran through his latest album from 2013, Explosive. A well chosen title. Great stuff. Fry's not only a wonderful guitar-player, his drum-programming is in the same class as Lyle Workman.

Same here! I just can't get enough of their music. We Like It Here would be a good starting point for anyone interested.

Currently enjoying Swift, the latest solo album from SP's pianist, Bill Laurance. I wouldn't consider it fusion, or at least not edgy and aggressive. Just some beautiful, well constructed music that hovers somewhere between jazz, pop, classical, and funk.

that is a darn fine album right there!
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
