Jesus Christ -- what a totally rotten way to go. So bloody sad.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)

    Damn.

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

How weird. I pulled out the recent remaster of the self-titled '75 Banco album yesterday. R.I.P to a great singer(he sounds like a opera singer).

Horrible, horrible news. This kind of reminds me of when the DFA keyboardist was killed in a car crash a few years ago. Yeah one of the great ones has left us. The band will never be the same if they chose to continue.

I'll never forget when they(including Francesco)signed my copy of "Darwin." Ciao Francesco and may you rest in peace.

I have heard him referred to as the Pavarotti of prog. It fits although I probably prefer him to Pavarotti.

Please don't take this as dark humor. It's a great track and seems appropriate. I don't understand the lyrics though since they are in Italian.

Well, here's the same song in English.

    R.I.P lyrics

    Cavalli corpi e lance rotte
    si tingono di rosso,
lamenti di persone che muoiono da sole
senza un Cristo che sia là.
    Pupille enormi volte al sole
    la polvere e la sete
l'affanno della morte lo senti sempre addosso
    anche se non saprai perchè.

Requiescant in pace. Requiescant in pace.
Requiescant in pace. Requiescant in pace.

    --- google translate:

    Horses bodies and broken lances
    are colored in red,
complaints of people who die from sun
without a Christ who is there.
Pupils at huge times in the sun
    dust and thirst
the anxiety of death you feel always on
even if you do not know why.

Requiescant in peace. Requiescant in peace.
Requiescant in peace. Requiescant in peace.
On the dreams of those who die off
    hast set thy glory
but the blood you spilled on yourself relapsed
    Your war is over
    old soldier.

    Now he sat the wind
your eyes are left hanging in the sky
the sun is shining on the eyes
you just have a dagger in his chest
and you do not, do not ever scaglierai
your spear to wound the horizon
    to push beyond
to discover what only God knows
    but you will only
the pain, the tears which thou hast given
    to push beyond
to discover what only God knows.

    To push yourself beyond,
to discover what only God knows ...

I just played RIP in the car, crying.

I also just played on cello: opening of di Terra, and melody of 750,000 anni fa ... l'amore?

not that I can do it justice ...

Oh no, incredibly sad. How old was he?

Unfortunately, I never had a chance to see Banco.

Yeah this is tough to swallow for me personally. For one thing I somehow managed to survive three rather serious car accidents the worst one which was on my way to Progday in 2008 just fifteen to twenty minutes from the hotel I was staying at. No Banco weren't playing there that year but still it's what I think of first because it's the one car accident that has any sort of prog connection. Also, I met the band after their 2001 performance briefly and they all signed my cd booklet for "Darwin." Unfortunately I didn't get to see Banco the second time they played at Nearfest(09 was it?). However, their performance in 01 was up there as one of the best NF performances I have seen(up there with Nektar's performance;it's hard for me to chose).

I also couldn't help but think of the DFA keyboardist. Francesco was such a powerful singer and a true icon if there ever was one.

The Banco performance at FMPM in 2008 was one of the rare exceptions in my concert experiences. Everyone in the audience knew they were witnessing history, something magical, and a rare treat - most were moved to tears at one point or another, including myself.

    There's a bright star in the sky tonight - - - RIP.

So great live. A celebration of sorts in light of today's tragedy.

Extremely sad. When I picked up their Manticore release in the early 90s, I was instantly in love. At the time, I never thought I’d get to see them live. Then in 2000, I did get my chance to see Banco in concert. When Francesco took the stage to sing on “Metamorfosi,” I actually did get teary-eyed. One of my favourite singers of all time, I could listen to his voice forever.

    Truly bummed.

Banco was one of the first bands I got into that didn't sing in English. I still remember hearing Darwin! for the first time back in '84. I'm so glad I got to see them at PF 2000.

Banco was the first Italian prog rock group that I came across, finding their Manticore album in a bin at a used record store in Boulder in 1980. That started my 34-year odyssey with Italian prog. I'll never forget their two performances at Nearfest and even walking by him on Main Street in Bethlehem the morning of their show in 2001.
