The album that he was talking about in those terms in interviews through the 1990s was pretty much finished by 1996/7 but only eventually released in 2000, so ~10 years later. 10 years to release an album is pretty ridiculous, but at least the album came out, as Conspiracy (plus 2 songs went to Yes's Open Your Eyes); it's just that by the time the album was released, it wasn't as a solo album and Squire had stopped talking about in terms of being a FOoW follow-up.

Squire then stopped talking about a second solo album until after the collapse of The Syn, at which point he very quickly released his second solo album, Chris Squire's Swiss Choir, and he talked a bit about another solo album... but then that body of material got re-directed to other projects (mainly Squackett, plus a song on each of the last two Yes albums). As Squire has said, whenever he tries to make a solo album, the material ends up getting re-directed. Of late, he's learnt his lesson and he's said that there can never be a follow-up to FOoW in the sense of an album in the same style, particularly with Andrew Jackman's passing, but that he will continue with solo/non-Yes work of other natures.

Syndestructible, of course, wasn't actually 40 years in the making. Nardelli may have been sitting on some ideas for a fair while, but the album came together pretty quickly, with the main delay being a financial dispute between Nardelli and the album's producers.

Zamran is approaching 16 years, while AFJP's Americana is on about 9 years, I think. My other comparison points here include Producers' Made in Basing Street at just under 6 years. The Anderson/Wakeman/Rabin project has now been going for 5 years, with no end in sight. Steve Howe's new solo anthology boxset, out next month, is 14 years late, while he was working on Time for 5 years. Trevor Rabin's Jacaranda took over a decade.

...and it isn't just the information.

You have that (typically wonderful) British gift for the language, the ability to correctly read the emotional content of a post, and the keen sense of knowing when to delicately avoid a confrontation versus when to call someone on their BS.

Just read on their site that Jonas Reingold is producing the new album which makes it even more interesting for me.

Earlier on in the Syn saga, Nardelli was touting some big event and said Sherwood would be playing at it. I dropped Sherwood a note: he said he'd been approached but no way in hell (I'm paraphrasing).

Yes, it's a live recording from 1 May 2009 of the previous line-up's final show at Rosfest. The rest of the tour was cancelled given poor ticket sales, with the band unpaid and unhappy. Brett Kull said to the echolyn mailing list on 5 May:

"Yep, the tour has been cancelled. Paul, and I are no longer playing
in the Syn nor having anything to do with it.

"Bad organization, bad mojo, bad energy."

Oddly, promo for the album doesn't mention that bit. You'd think "Bad organization, bad mojo, bad energy" would be a great quote to put on the advertising...

Anyway, should be a good recording. It was a multi-talented band that had been assembled. Although given what's happened in the past, I do wonder whether Kull, Ramsey, Brislin, Dunnery et al. know of or, indeed, have approved this release.

I see Jonas Reingold from Flower Kings is involved as producer which makes this album even more worth waiting for. Nardelli certainly seems to know what he's doing when putting his albums together alongside building new towns.

FWIW, when I talked to Tobias Lundgren about MS's collaboration with the deservedly infamous Mr. Nardelli & his reputation, he said the band was aware of it going in, and the contract specified that Sweden would do nothing unless paid in advance.

Hearsay is not worth a lot and why is it relevant to the music? That's a rhetorical question of course, people love gossip, including me. Steve Nardelli and Chris Squire are often at the centre of the prog gossip universe. It must be a Syn thing.
