Anyone out there watching this show? HBO is hitting it out of the park once again. Amazing acting and writing and still hard to tell where it is all going to end up. I think this ranks right up there with HBO’s all time best so far.

Absolutely riveting! I feel like I'm getting lung cancer just watching Russ Cole being interviewed. WH and MM are putting on an acting clinic!

An incredible series. I wish I had subtitles for some of those deep south accents but the show is unbelievable.

TV at it's best. The same overall seamy vibe that Breaking Bad had. MM's present day persona with the cigs & beer is absolutely right up there with Cranston & Paul's acting. Wonder if they'll show in detail why MM's character slid into his "now" abyss from his "then" supercop persona.

Excellent show indeed.
I'm convinced that the show is secretly a comedy. Watch it as such and find yourself balling laughter. (Though the tense getaway scene/deal gone bad from a week ago was pretty fucking intense.)

Yeah, I've seen it. It's good, but compare it to some of the actual dialogue in the show. Bear with me on this and keep an open mind.
Like, I get it's not actually a comedy, but I don't think the humor is unintended--not like True Blood unintentionally intentional, campy humor. But actual "no one would ever think this shit is funny so let's just go with it" humor.
All right. I get that that sounds insane. But I really do laugh when watching the show, and I think they're in on it.

I was thinking it was a little slow on the pacing as well until the last two weeks. As someone else mentioned it was riveting television.
One question that came up between my wife and I last night. Is there a significance to the oil refinery that they keep showing in the background of many scenes? I mean it can’t be the same one since they are in different locations……..or can it? I have been to that area of Louisiana once a quite a few years ago, and I remember plants like that being all over the place, but they seem to make it / them so prevalent in this series just wondering if there is a reason or if it just makes a good backdrop?
Provided that this ends satisfactorily this is a mandatory DVD performance just to catch all the clues and nuances that fly by you while watching. I just saw a behind the scenes vid where the writer says the reason Cohle is pounding beers is he knows that it makes anything he says in that room inadmissible.

Great episode this week and the technique of the narrative of the events at the barn set against the actual events at the barn was fantastic.
Only thing I struggle with is Cohle losing it in the interrogation room. I understand he would have a reaction to the prisoners comments about the Yellow King, but not such a violent/severe reaction.

I just finished epi 3 and I procrastinated on watching it. Now I can't wait to finish the season and a major reason for that is MM/WH's dialogue. MM cracks me up because he's so nihilistic or existential or both... not sure which. And then, WH's replies/reactions are becoming classic to me.
Yes, I do find their dialogue funny, but maybe for different reasons? I don't know.
My only minor quibble with the show is the personal flashbacks [edit: WH's family, MM's date, etc]. Is it really necessary? I'll wait to see how it plays out before making a final judgement.

It's getting better and better, but typically don't like series that unfold so slowly. I also think that MM is overplaying the über-coolness of his character a little bit, but not that it bothers me much. HBO's best show currently is Boardwalk Empire IMHO.

Great episode last night, although I find the sex is gratuitous nearly to the point of being pornographic. "I want you to fuck me in my ass"? Pretty strong stuff for this particular show IMO... not that I have a problem with such stuff of course! I just don't know if its necessary on this show.

Instead of starting a new thread and potentially getting no replies, I figured since we're all fans of TD, I wondered if anyone is also watching "Banshee" on Cinemax. Kay found it recently (2 episodes into its 2nd season), and it too is riveting, and may be the biggest sex & violence show on tv. Great acting, dialogue and a premise, plotline & characters that make 60 minutes seem like 15. If you have Cinemax On Demand, you can watch all 10 episodes of season 1 and the first 2 of the current season

Haunted Houses Episode 6 spoilers:
Rusts' interview with Tuttle is naturally going to be a key going forward. I liked how Tuttle told Rust "he would be thinking of him" as he walked out. He'll be "thinking" about Rust alright, like how to shut him down...
Also liked how the 2012 detectives linked Tuttle's 2010 death by "mixed medication" to Rust by pointing out to Marty that had happened just shortly after he showed up again after disappearing for awhile-So did Rust kill Tuttle, something I thought might be the case last week?
No doubt the Yellow King is leader of a cult, with multiple members that are Big People. Someone else is King now, since Tuttle is gone.
I was thrilled when I realized that old Rust and old Marty are getting back together again in 2012. Guessing Rust was hanging around outside the station hoping to see Marty leaving his interview. Clearly Rust is smart enough to conclude the 2012 detectives were quizzing Marty at the same time. Wonder if he also figures Maggie is getting grilled too?
