Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
I guess since Ronnie and Phil only have 2 LPs each (other albums being in the CD era) I'll do them both
I was leaning toward Matrix myself
but Martino, McL, Manzanera and all the others are all pretty much worthy

update
I had a request from a friend to do WAR on CDR so I skipped ahead to W but now I'll do M
I have no idea why I never put my WAR albums on CDR until now. They did some fantastic Space-y jams and some stone cold Afro Prog. Great stuff! I digitally remastered the first 4 albums without Burdon in case anyone is interested

No Elton John? Shame on you. Sure he deteriorated after about 1976, but that still leaves a dozen or so albums that could be called "classic."
As for you M's:
I love the Moody Blues but I'm not sure their sound is one that would benefit hugely from digital remastering. Same applies to Bob Marley.
On the other hand, I see two acts that would: mannheim Steamroller and Pat Metheny.
You should get some Midnight Juggernauts.
Midnight Juggernauts? who can you compare them to? I'm always up for something I haven't heard before

They are difficult to describe. Comparisons have been made with Kraftwerk, ELO and Hawkwind, but really they sound like none of those bands, though the influences are clearly there.
Is there a prog/dance/electronica genre? I think maybe there should be. MJ's music is extremely danceable, but the tunes are far more interesting than your usual dance club fare.
There are some clips available on the Net. Check out "Into the Galaxy", "Lifeblood Flow", "The Great Beyond", and ""Ballad of the War Machine".
I won't be offended if you don't like them, they took me a while to appreciate.
are they vinyl only?
it would be cool to have this thread morph into 'things that are only available on vinyl which need a good digital remastering'

I have 2 EJ albums, but I'm already past J when I did Tull

I would start with The jam... No where near prog,
but magnificent nonetheless.
Still alive and well...
thanks for the help guys... but... umm...
I'm doing Ronnie Montrose now and I wont need help with N as Nucleus is loooong overdue for the digital remaster treatment
perhaps O, but I think Oldfield is gonna be the one there... or Ohio Players???

well Fred... you certainly are right about the Drum sound on Open Fire. Not only is there no low end, but I think the Drums were not mic'd properly. Still, I managed to pull them up and get some thunder out of them. I'll post one of the pieces from my digital remaster work in a bit.
Time to move on to N

For N, I'd love to hear Night Ranger's first five albums remastered. They sound terribly flat on the c.d.s I've got. Also, possibly Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon band stuff (if that's not an S!)
As for O, it's got to be The Outlaws, hasn't it? Only got into them recently & I find them mind bogglingly good.
ok, here's the first piece(s) of Open Fire that I remastered

let me know how you like it...

here it is in MP3 if you don't have the ability to play FLAC

Sounds GREAT! You do some excellent work, MT.
Ok… now on to N and a new idea
for M I did the suggested Montrose but I really wanted to do Matrix and boy am I glad I did… FANTASTIC stuff!
So, for N, I am going to do Nucleus, but I will also do a second artist who wins the vote by you guys.
Here are the candidates (remember that these are *only* artists from the LP era, pre-1990, and that I have already, in the past decade, randomly remastered other artists such as National Health)
Mark Nauseef (including Dark)
Bill Nelson
The New Birth
New York Mary
The Nite-Liters
Gary Numan
Nuova Era
so… who would be *your* choice from those worthy candidates?

I never liked Nova due to the vocals, so I never bought those albums back in the day
I listed all of the 'N' artists that I have on LP to do digital remasters of... other artists are either 1. already done before I started going alphabetically. or 2. I have them on CD, not LP
Nova is an artist I have on CD
If (and when) I get around to compiling a 'best of' CDR from the Nova CDs I have, it will be to cut all the vocals out

There are plenty of instrumental moments on the Nova - Vimana album, and

if there are great albums which aren't available on CD, I'll be glad to seek them out in a CDR trade and remaster them, SURE!
this thread is generally for discussing albums that are in serious need of remastering, albeit in the context of alphabetical order as I can get to them in my spare time.
These are the ones I have on LP:
Mark Nauseef (including Dark)
Bill Nelson
The New Birth
New York Mary
The Nite-Liters
Gary Numan
Nuova Era
so... what album(s) by artists starting with the letter N do YOU feel need remastering MJ?
