Zorn / Patton - Templars: In Sacred Blood

John Zorn's 6th release in his moonchild trio series, now expanded to a quartet, features Mike Patton on voice, Trevor Dunn on bass, John Medeski on organ, and Joey Baron on drums. Thematically based on the warrior monks of the Knights Templars (formed by the church then later persecuted by them as Devil worshippers) the lyrics are Zorn's impressionistic poetry about this dark mysterious otherworld of the Templars, whispered-gurgled-screamed-and-shrieked by Patton in his arguably most aggressive, over-the-top performance in perhaps...ever (if that can be believed!) The music is like Bungle meets Crimson meets Jimmy Smith organ jazz. Not for everyone, yet for some ears (including my own) intense and uniquely different, some of the most beautifully frightening music. Never heard anything quite like it. So I provide some links to some of the tunes for the curious.
