Sure sounds like him to me.

I love Of Queues and Cures and Rotter's Club (the main them of Mumps influenced a track on the new Sanguine Hum record and we used to play Big John Wayne live) but for me the first Hatfield and NH albums are all time top albums of...well, all time Magical stuff.

I remember hearing a version of Binoculars with Richard Sinclair on vocals on the radio. Did it ever appear anywhere officially??

    Matt.

I just listened to the first Hatfield, and was again blown away not only by the composition, but the strong mood behind the music, throughout. Interesting, that my cd shows 'Homerton' (my very favorite track on the album) is shown as being written by Pip Pyle, but my original vinyl says Dave Stewart. Well I'm nearly positive it's a Dave Stewart composition, as it's ... well ... pure Stewart.

Thanks for that confirmation. They each have their definite (but complementary) writing styles.

Who else used to look up Hatfield CD's and LP's in record stores even though you had the albums anyway and Juliana Hatfield always popped up?
If it isn't Krautrock, it's krap.

Not really, but a similar story with Soft Machine and Soft Cell.

Mid to late 1980's when I first discovered Peter Hammill, I would always vainly check shops for LPs by the thin man. But someone named "Peter Himmelman" would always be represented by a few discs. No idea who he is/was but every shop seemed to have something by him! The first several times it would fool me for a second or two. Wow! a Hammill disc! Sorry. Nope.

Does this mean that Marc Almon did NOT play on "Fletcher's Blemish" after all?!

For me, it was looking for Marillion and finding many times an album by a band called Marilyn. Just Marilyn.

Wow, I didn't really know Hatfield played at NEARfest. That's one I sadly missed!

Singer - songwriter - guitarist, I have and enjoy a few of his 90's albums, saw him live around '95 supporting a concept album called Skin. He's also married to Bob Dylan's daughter.

    is it available for dl?
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Right-click over the first link and select Save As. It's an MP4 file. Looks like it was recorded on someone's Flip Recorder!

My dream in the 70s was to see Hatfield and the North live..in concert. ....at a place like Hammersmith Odeon. With some unbelievably talented sound tech at the mixing board. And all 3 of the Northettes would be there..on the stage..with their angelic voices . Supposedly the Northettes never performed with the band live...just in the studio. I felt the element of sound they added to the band was totally one hundred percent vital to the band's musical characteristic. Their identity. I can't be dismissive of that realization just because there are no live concert recordings available.

Well, they RARELY did, but NOT never. There were 3 'big band' shows in April/May 1974 (including London's Roundhouse) of which recordings and photos survive. If I could travel back in time that would be #1 on the list of gigs I wish I could have attended.

I run the Hatfield Facebook group and if you subscribe, there's a video on there that I put together of part of "Homerton" set against photos of the Cambridge concert.
