I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

There were only about 10 bands that I hadn't heard of. But since the criteria was how many I've actually heard, the total was 58. And some of those I had to think about - in most cases it was a Youtube clip someone posted here or I stumbled upon on my own, and that was the extent of my having "heard" them. Then again, if I have an internet prog station on in the background at work, I may have heard some more of those bands without knowing who I was listening to if it didn''t spark my interest enough to go to the computer and check the playlist.

And c'mon, Be Bop Deluxe or Horslips should be on that list over Toto!!
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...

Haven't heard: Edge Of Sanity, Eskaton, Henry Cow, Jan Dukes, Russian Circles, Orphaned Land, Radio Massacre, Riverside, Tortoise.

Indeed. Still some non-prog (UH and Voivod, again, and could someone explain what’s “prog” about Edge of Sanity? I tried listening to Crimson, or as much of it as I could stand, when I found out how highly rated it was on [other prog site], and it just sounded like ordinary death-growl metal to me.) but at least I’ve heard of most of the bands (I think Russian Circles was the only name I did not recognize). I scored 85 on this one, the unheard ones (I guess I can cross Cynic off now):

Ayreon, Cardiacs, Comedy of Errors, Devin Townshend, The Future Kings of England, Jan Dukes de Grey, Kayo Dot, The Mars Volta, Orphaned Land, Radio Massacre International, Russian Circles, Sylvan, Thinking Plague, Tortoise, Unexpect.

Beware Opeth, unless you’re into death metal (i.e.: chug-a-chug guitars, Cookie Monster vocals, the works), the only album likely to interest you would be Damnation. It’s their flirtation with moody Scando-prog and reminds me of Anekdoten in their more reflective moments. I have been unable to get all the way through any of their other albums, death metal is not my thing at all.

Picked up "Damnation" on the advice of my local Progressive (Rock and Metal) music store owner a few years ago. Fell in love with it and went out the next week to get some more and came home with "Ghost Reveries". Don't think I ever did finish listening to it. I could still enjoy the music I think but as soon as they start in with the "Growl" vocals I have to move on. As far as I understand other than "Damnation" the rest of Opeth music is skippable by me due to the "Growl" which turns me right off.

I like the 2nd list better too. The only major omission was Toto. WTF, how could you leave them out?! ;-) I scored higher on this one - 84.

Wife: Have you got anything without spam?
Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it.
Wife: I don't want ANY spam!
Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage?
Wife: THAT'S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
