    The 1990s

Same again chaps, one year = one studio album

The PRONK decade, for me at any rate.

90 Cardiacs - Songs for Ships and Irons (Vinyl & cassette only, the CD came out in 95)
91 Cardiacs - Heaven Born and Ever Bright
92 The Sea Nymphs (Yes, I was one of the lucky few who got one of those Privately Released Limited Edition Cassettes at a Sea Nymphs gig, 3 years before the CD release)
93 Miranda Sex Garden - Suspiria
94 Sleepy People - Blunt Nails in a Sharp Wall
95 Tim Smith's Extra Special OceanLandWorld
96 Cardiacs Sing to God Parts I & II (recorded 95 released 96)
97 Sleepy People - Typhoid and Swans
    98 Spratley's Japs - Pony
    99 Cardiacs - Guns

Only for the prog revival. There was way more mainstream stuff in the 70s and 80s that could have potentially made my list, but popular music and mainstream rock really sucked in the 90s!

I have very little interest in mainstream rock and popular music in general.

I only care about prog, modern classical, jazz, and fusion.

If I wasn't so much in love with the music of Cardiacs and the music of their friends, family and associated bands as I have been since the late 80s, those three would be my immediate picks for those years. Arena has been my favourite modern prog band since day one when I bough Lion's Cage. And believe it or not the recommendation review for the album came from The Organ fanzine, which has long been a champion of Cardiacs and friends.

12 Kravitz, Lenny - Let Love Rule USA 1990 Nimal's Voix De Surface is a close second, but I didn't know about it until a decade afterwards
12 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik USA 1991
    13 Änglagård - Hybris Swe 1992
    13 Anekdoten - Vemod Swe 1993
    13 Portishead - Dummy Eng 1994
    12 Höyry-Kone - Hyönteisiä Voi Rakastaa Fin 1995
12 Ravana - Common Daze Nor 1996 (Miriodor Jonglerie Elastiques a close second)
12 Lindh Project, Pär - Mundus Incompertus Swe 1997
    11 Godspeed You Black Emperor! - f#a#oo Can 1998

I find Kravitz's debut one of the rebirth of real "rock" music, along with Nevermind, Ragged Glory and Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

Don’t sweat it, ’98 was a pretty weak year. I do like that Wappa Gappa album I listed, but it would have been midtable in a stronger year.

Even though this has 1994 on the CD, it was released in 1995 if I'm not mistaken.
