    Porcupine Tree - 67%

    I'm sure there's a future thread in this...

    I prefer progless Todd as well, btw.

    Progginess should be determined by how much of their history has been prog (Tull = 20%), and how close they are to symph prog perfection at their proggiest (ELP = 90%, Henry Cow = 25%)
    Bigness is a measure of the success (Beatles, Stones, Floyd = 100%, Flower Kings = 30%)

    So lets look at the Big 5 candidates - Progginess first, both history % and perfection %, then Bigness

    Yes = 60% x 100% x 70% = 42
    Genesis = 40% x 100% x 85% = 34
    Floyd = 80% x 40% x 100% = 32
    ELP = 90% x 90% x 60% = 49
    Tull = 20% x 50% x 70% = 7
    Crimson = 100% x 60% x 50% = 30
    Moodies = 25% x 90% x 50% = 11
    Kansas = 30% x 70% x 60% = 13
    Rush = 30% x 60% x 70% = 13
    Gentle Giant = 90% x 90% x 30% = 24
    Soft Machine = 25% x 50% x 30% = 4
    VDGG = 100% x 25% x 40% = 10

    So the statistical real Big 5 is

    ELP
    Yes
    Genesis
    Floyd
    Crimson

    Followed by

    Gentle Giant
    Kansas
    Rush
    Moodies
    VDGG
    Tull
    Soft Machine

    Finally sorted that, Phew!!

    I'm pretty sure this has already been posted on PA.

    Well if you're trying for the 'impression' of seriousness then you have to go the whole way, you need people to stop and think "Is he serious?". I was trying to think of percentages that would make peoples heads explode, "only 30% of Rush is prog!!", "Crimson are only 60% really prog!!", etc etc

    That's exactly what I mean, Ian.... That's pretty frigging scary stuff (I mean who cares what is or isn't "prog" or the degree of progginess)

    I don't think you're the only one who took it seriously. As for me, I was shaking my head in disbelief and hoping it was a joke. Good one, Ian!

    Okay, I confess I honestly wasn't taking it seriously at all, and was playing along. All my comments were tongue-in-cheek. (the PQ appears sound! Seriously? ) Of course, you could never get anyone to agree on any of this stuff!

    I was pretty sure you were playing along which obviously helped.

    Hopefully, you didn't take my comments seriously either.... I knew it was partly a joke... but it's the considerable time it tok to set it up that makes it seems relatively unworthy to the final result
