Solo efforts by BIG "5" etc. band members

    1. If you consider that PF on their first album was a prog band then by all means include Syd Barrett.
    2. Albums can have been released while the artist was a member or after leaving the band.
    3. There are NOW 11 (VdGG dropped off earlier) bands listed here, so being generous we'll say a maximum of 22 favourite albums per list. Divide your 22 (or less) how you will, if you want to list 10 Fripp albums, 5 Waters albums and 5 Gabriel albums be my guest.

    BIG 5
    King Crimson
    Genesis
    Yes
    Pink Floyd
    Jethro Tull

    6-11
    Camel
    Caravan
    ELP
    Gentle Giant
    Soft Machine
    Van der Graaf Generator

Before this thread can continue I think there needs to be a twenty page argument about your 6 to 10...

Oh...I thought this was about swapping out Tull & Floyd for ELP & GG.

Tull can stay in the top 5 but Floyd has to go.

    Anyway, in no order:

Fish Out of Water, Chris Squire
    Olias Of Sunhillow, Jon Anderson
The Green Album, Eddie Jobson who counts because he was in Tull and Yes, sort of)
    One Of A Kind, Bruford
Peter Gabriel- Car (the 1st one)

I mean, I got nuthin' revolutionary to add here...

I was told in another thread that Genesis was not a Big 5 band...

Might want to start by determining who The Big 5 were....

Take your Big 5 argument elsewhere. You can define it how you will, which is why I listed 11. But please don't derail this thread with a pointless discussion. This thread is about the solo albums not about what constitutes the BIG 5, call it the BIG 8 or BIG 11 if you want.

    King Crimson
I guess I'd throw in Fripp and Eno "Evening Star" and Bruford's first two solo albums

    Genesis
    Peters first 3-4 solo albums,
    Anthony's Geese and Ghost
    Tony's Curious Feeling
    Steve's first 2-3 albums
Phil's first album (honestly I really like this one)

    Yes
    Anderson's first 3 albums
    Steve's second album
    Patrick's first two albums
    Ricks Criminal Record

    Pink Floyd
    Rogers Amused to Death
    Dave's first album
    Rick's Wet Dream

Blimey I forgot to include Steve Hackett, well now that the list is 22, I'll include Voyage and Please Don't Touch.

I thought it was ruled definitively the last time this thread appeared that "Bruford" is a band and not a solo project by Bill Bruford.

Also, wouldn't "Fripp/Eno," by it's very nature, not be a solo project?

If we define solo albums as albums released under the full name of one of the band members, I'm going with (in order of preference)

    Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
    Hugh Hopper - Hoppertunity Box
    Robert Wyatt - Cuckooland
    Peter Gabriel - II
Robert Wyatt - Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard
    Robert Wyatt - Shleep
    Peter Gabriel - III
    Trey Gunn - Live Encounter
    Robert Fripp - Exposure
    Hugh Hopper - 1984

That's what you should have done . By listing a big 5 & big 10 derailed it straight away !

True- in fact I'm probably the one who said it. The same is sort of supposed to be true of the Zinc project but I don't buy it. That's a solo album all the way.

Anthony Phillips: Private Parts And Pieces
Anthony Phillips: The Geese And The Ghost (especially the expanded edition)
Anthony Phillips: Private Parts And Pieces IV
Anthony Phillips: Private Parts And Pieces V
    David Gilmour: first album
    David Gilmour: About Face
Chris Squire: Fish Out Of Water
    Hugh Hopper: 1984
    Hugh Hopper: Hoppertunity Box
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel (second one)
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel (third one)
    Steve Howe: Turbulence
    Steve Howe: Natural Timbre
Robert Wyatt: Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard
    Robert Wyatt: Rock Bottom
Robert Fripp: Let The Power Fall
Robert Fripp: God Save The Queen/Under Heavy Manners
    Fripp & Eno: No Pussyfooting
    Fripp & Eno: Evening Star
Steve Hackett: Voyage Of The Acolyte
    Steve Hackett: Please Don't Touch
Peter Hammill: And Close As This

Admittedly, I really only remember one track from that Peter Hammill album, but Too Many Of My Yesterdays is one of my favorites from him, and I don't remember enough of his other solo albums that I have to comment on them, so...

Robert Wyatt's music is great, he's very talented. But I can't stand his 'vocals'. I think he'd better hire a classical singer, dramatic tenor would be the best.
