Longest time on album before the vocals starts

Come to think about it when listening to the latest Shadow Circus album where the vocals comes in after about ten minutes.
Now I donīt mean instrumental music with some occasional vocals on certain tunes.
If I remember correctly there are a couple of songs by Todd Rundgrens Utopia with very long musical intros.
    More suggestions?

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Totally the first thing I thought of, and it's even more impressive considering when it was released.

Chicago VII . The vocals don't kick in until the sixth track. That's over 25 minutes.

    Santana's Caravanserai

Fourth track: Just In Time To See The Sun (about 13-mins into the album)
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I remember seeing Pat Metheny Group and Al DiMeola videos on HBO's old Video Jukebox show back in the early 80's. I remember in both cases, I kept waiting for the vocals to kick in. Hell, I'm still waiting!

I don't know why, I was just astonished to hear instrumental music that sounded like that. Mind you, I was like 9 or 10 years old at the time, but somehow I imagined instrumental music to either sound like bluegrass, jazz (and at the time, my concept of "jazz" had more to do with people like Dizzy Gillespie than what Metheny was doing) or classical music.

The first thing that came to my mind was Sleep's utterly righteous Dopesmoker. The singing doesn't show up until about eight minutes in. The piece is just over an hour long. I think the guitar solo makes an appearance at about twenty minutes although I'm not exactly sure of the timings from memory.

Todd Rungren's Utopia Theme has a rather long "entrance" prior to vocals..

Yes-The Ancient is over 2/3rds of the song before any voices show up.

Steppenwolf-The Pusher from Early Steppenwolf. No vocals until the last 3 minutes of an album side.

Speaking of Chicago, Ballet For A Girl In Buchanon has no vocals until Terry comes in singing Colour My World.

Camel-Echoes has a pretty long intro before any singing.

I think the longest in terms of track numbers could be A Silver Mt Zion's Thirteen Blues for Thirteen Moons, no vocals until track 13 but it's only about 50 seconds!

Ummm, no. There's "Make Me Smile" and "So Much to Say, So Much to Give" before that.

There are vocals for the last two minutes or so of Henry Cow's Unrest album.

I just wish that was the case with Tony Williams Lifetime "Emergency". The vocals just kill that album.

Can't remember now if the vocals are at the end of side one or side two of Tubular Bells - but either way its a good while into the music.

    .
Had to check this... Coz The Pusher comes as the second track of the flipside of their debut album, and all of the tracks on side 1 and track B1 are sung

Maybe so, but Early Steppenwolf is not an "usual" Steppenwolf album... is this a live album... and are all the tracks on side 1 iinstrumental..

and most important is it any good???

What about Tubular Bells, side one?
That one sure was a surprise the first time I heard it.

+1 Exactly! I was about to point out the same thing.

Obviously there have been others mentioned that go longer without vocals, but here's another one. Zappa's Waka/Jawaka. First song is the instrumental Big Swifty at about 17 minutes. Side 2 opens with Your Mouth, one of two vocal tracks on the album. So all of side 1 without vocals.

Really? Three out of eight tunes have vocals. You can skip tracks, ya know.
