oh and the album is *gorgeous* ...

(Disclaimer: nothing I say about Aldo or his music can possibly be construed as impartial.)

but seriously. I can see why Aldo has been saying L'Angelo Rinchiuso (which I translate as "The Captive Angel") is the *best thing he's ever done*. I think he's backed down a little from that extravagant claim (!) but there's a consensus emerging among his Italian fans that this is certainly his best *solo* work. (I personally have a soft spot in my heart for Il Viaggio, sitar-laden and spiritual ...)

L'Angelo Rinchiuso is a real *return to prog*. It's a suite, a concept album about an angel who visits an old man (Aldo himself):

    nel autunno dei miei giorni
    nel tramonto dei miei sogni

in the autumn of my days
in the sunset of my dreams

Aldo has said the "angel" isn't a religious or really even a spiritual figure - more like his inner voice, I suppose. Some really lovely songs amidst some kickass *prog*!!

If Aldo's previous solo album is reminiscent of Genesis circa Trespass, now L'Angelo Rinchiuso has much more of the feel of ... well, Felona e Sorona! in fact there are a few direct references to FeS, both lyrical and musical.

Powerful and delicate, strong and mature, poignant and profound ... yes, this just might be Aldo at his best.

which is about as good as it gets *imo*.

This is SO much more Orme, than the "real" Orme's most recent, "La Via Della Seta"

While listening the past couple of evenings it struck me how much Aldo's voice is a signature element of Orme, and this one has all the earmarks of classic Orme

    A+

I am guessing this will eventually find it's way to the usual suspects over here (i.e. Laser's Edge, Wayside)...will check out then.

In all truth, I was less impressed with his last album vs. the last Orme album (HERESY!! I know). But, it's Italian and it's prog. So I will give it a whirl
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

I love Aldo. I could listen to that guy sing any form of music, prog or otherwise and it would be auto buy for me. His voice can melt the coldest heart, I swear. Thank you for the heads up!

What I wrote came off badly I think, I like Orme's last CD, but Aldo's voice is just so engrained in classic Orme that this comes off better to me

Other than the EXCELLENT Whitehead art on "Nella Pietra", I wasn't really that impressed by Aldo's last solo effort either but this one is LOT better IMO

Sure, it's all good. I happen to really love the last Le Orme album, and while I agree Aldo's voice is unique...in all truth I didn't miss him on the last one.

Hopefully I'll enjoy his next one as much as you have

this album has fire and darkness and aggression that is a hallmark of classic Le Orme. Aldo's last one was Trespass-y and that was very nice when I am in the right mood... but this presses all the prog buttons and HARD.
