I saw Roy Harper chastise audience members for talking. He made these kind of polite hints between each of the first two or three songs, saying things like "You know I can tell you everything you've been talking about during each song". Finally during about the fourth song, he abruptly stops in the middle and basically tells them to either move to the back of the room or be quiet.
Neil Young once addressed two women in the front row who were talking, by stopping his song and telling them that he'll just wait until they've finished their conversation.
