    Buckethead or Frank Zappa

Due to the massive unpopularity of the 'John 5 vs Buckethead' thread I started months ago, now I'm curious to know which one, Bucket or Frank Zappa, is your favorite musician? I like both but prefer Buckethead mainly because 99% of his work is w/o lyrics or vocals and his guitar playing appeals to me more than Frank's. Nothing at all against FZ tho.

Buckethead by a trillion miles. Disjointed wanky junk from Zappa.

Buckethead may be technically a better guitarist that Zappa.

But Frank is by far the better musician.

Zappa composes: rock, fusion, prog, modern classical, sometimes all in the same piece. His innovation is far ahead of Buckethead's.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

Well, any opinion I have on Buckethead is probably invalid because the main thing I remember hearing from him was one of the early Praxis records (circa 93 or 94, something like that). I remember thinking there were an awful lot of 64th notes, but not a whole lot of melody or feeling or anything else to make the guitar playing interesting.

But Frank is one of my favorites. Things like Watermelon In Easter Hay, Zoot Allures, Black Napkins, and many of Frank's solos in the other compositions were just beyond amazing. Frank had a great sense of tone and melody, which are far more important to me than the ability to string together a bunch of perfectly executed 64th notes at maximum velocity.

Buckethead could have been one of FZ stunt guitarists.

come on, I like Buckethead but it he doesn't even rate next to Zappa. I bet even Buckethead would pick Zappa. Of course he wouldn't say so, his sock puppet would.

In all honesty, I couldn't say I've ever heard Buckethead. Given the moniker, I find it hard to take him seriously. Perhaps that's not fair, but it is the way it is.

I am surprised such a question is even asked. Don't get me wrong, Buckethead is a great musician and a gifted guitarist, but is he in the same league as Zappa? Not now, not ever.

For me - a life-long Zappa fan - I only recently discovered Buckethead and have to say his guitar technique is light years ahead of Zappa's but his compositional and arranging skills don't match up to Zappa - I think a more interesting comparison would be between Buckethead and Aphex Twin.

ZAPPA in a landslide!!! Nothing against Bucket but this isn't even a fair fight. Put it this way, Bucket could conceivably have been in one of Zappa's bands but Zappa in Bucket's band would be a step backward for FZ.

    Its a no brainer , BUCKETHEAD !
Did Zappa ever write one memorable tune ? His music hasn't lasted & has no significance now .When was the last time you can honestly say you heard anything on any rock radio station or otherwise .

Well! well, well, well... I haven't heard Zappa or Buckethead by listening to any radio stations. my tastes are outside the mainstream. on the other hand, maybe your comment is tongue in cheek

Sure, we hear Buckethead on the radio all the time.

When was the last time you heard "Suppers Ready" on the radio.? I guess that means it's insignificant.

By your logic, AC/DC is the greatest band ever.
