They started out both doing ambient stuff and melodic techno. In the late '90s is where they switch to what they are doing now.

I dunno. It could be just an 18-second tape loop that repeats for 8:27. There is no development or variety in this, aside from slowly opening up a bandpass filter.

The problem I've have with recent Autechre is all my own. Their music requires such concentrated listening and, given the quantity of their recent output, Exai for instance, is so overwhelming I just haven't been able to give it the time it needs to fully bed in.
This has more to do with my now being very 'time poor' than it does the quality of their output.
Everything new I've heard sounds just as brilliant as ever...there's just so much of it!
