Speaking of remakes or "reimagining", I've always thought Fabrizio Cassol (of Aka Moon) did a fantastic job in the 90s with this remake of sorts of A Love Supreme. I couldn't find full clips, but here are some stream samples from his site.

Peter Evans-trumpet.Almost other-worldly technique, amazing control and articulation, boiling over with ideas. At times he can be exhausting listening, he can be..relentless.But rewarding.

Well, we have JIF. He's pretty proud of his own junior badger moderator badge that he won himself.

I cannot stand the blaring of big band, but I like the stuff that is mainly bass, drums, piano, sax and maybe guitar (which was most of the acts at the casino lounge I used to sit over while waiting for my parents). I could not tell anyone anything about measure or composition or stuff like point and counterpoint or even who is playing, but I do know I like some of the stuff I hear.
Hmm, I'm just the opposite. I really don't care much for jazz trios doing round-robin soloing stuff, but a well-composed & orchestrated big band kickin' butt? I LOVE that stuff! I'm also a fan of some fusion as well, like Holdsy.

Yeah, Big Band is a bit too polished for me. Gimme that old shit like Bix Beiderbeke and I'm toe-tappin'.

If your gripe was that this thread was originally posted on the main forum, well... okay. If you're complaining about it being in the OT forum, you're a frickin' dufus, Rufus.

Anyway, I'm in. Listening to the Antonio Sanchez track right now and digging it. I saw him live with Danillo Perez years ago and he was pretty awesome! He did a solo where he was playing the clave on a cowbell with a foot pedal and he was playing all of this crazy shit on top of it, without ever losing the clave rhythm. Wow! I wasn't surprised that Pat Metheny signed him on to his band.

I'll gradually make my way through the other tracks... thanks for posting, guys!

I recently found a used CD of Chick Corea's "The Song of Singing" at a brick and mortar shop somewhere (I was in the midst of a tri-state bus tour with a band; I don't even know what state this store was in, but I found it when we took a lunch stop). I know it's an oldie, but I don't think I ever heard it before. It's pretty "free" stuff and though I'm generally not a huge fan of the free jazz thing, I think it's pretty cool!

My second favorite track from Joe Chambers' record "New World".This is "Blow Up"(written by Herbie Hancock).
