I can't believe no one mentioned Jeff Beck! If you've ever seen him live, he's a monster slider! The dude knows the notes beyond the fretboard, all the way to the bridge!

This. To me GH almost invented the "non blues melodic slide style". He is SO unrecognized for his slide playing. Probably because he didn't do any of it while in The Beatles.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Oh yeah, Paul is amazing. Little Feat is still worth seeing for his slide playing alone, not to mention the guitar badassery that is the one and only Fred Tackett! That guy is amazing. Little Feat never had any lack of talent in the band, that is for sure.

Hows about a shout out to the guitarists on Captain Beefheart's records who played "glass-finger guitar", "steel- appendage guitar" or just plain ole slide guitar.

    Ry Cooder(mentioned in this thread)
    Elliot Ingber(Winged Eel Fingerling)
    Zoot Horn Rollo(Bill Harkleroad)
    Jeff Moris Tepper
    Gary Lucas
    Richard Redus
    Denny Walley

    Am i missing anyone?

Many good slide players, for sure. Favorite slide work in prog:

Steve Howe in 'Maiden Voyage'. Holy smoke, that gives me chills.
Andy Latimer, very tasteful solos throughout, seems there is quite a few nice slide bits off 'Nod & a Wink'

Yes! I just watched him do this on the Tokyo '99 DVD.

Me too! I've not been fortunate enough to see 'em live, but LOVE their three releases...have since followed every member of the group, and they all have some great releases out there too!

Since Johnny Winter and Duane Allman have already been mentioned above, I've always loved Rory Gallagher:

Not sure if anyone mentioned Dave Hole

“Pleasure and pain can be experienced simultaneously,” she said, gently massaging my back as we listened to her Coldplay CD.
