He died from a brain hemorrhage at 51. He appears on Bela Fleck's live album, and also performed for Frank Zappa when FZ was near the end. I highly recommend the film Genghis Blues to see what throat singing is all about.

that's too bad. he was an amazing artist. his 1st (and possibly only) album was incredible.
