Last Day to Pre-Order the 25th Anniversary "Interstellar Suite"

Amin Bhatia's great "Interstellar Suite" (1987) was released on the short-lived Cinema Records imprint of Capitol Records, and disappeared from the market shortly after. It's a great electronic album in the tradition of Wendy Carlos or Tomita's "The Planets." Bhatia is remixing it to surround sound for release next year, assuming he can get enough subscriptions to finance the project.

I'm on the list. Are you?

It's been a long time since the Indigogo-campaign closed, but yesterday was the big day: the package arrived with the book, a lot of CD's (some nice bonuses), the DVD (which I already had b.t.w) with the stunning 5.1 mix, a T-shirt and a USB-stick.

I got a small package that had what looks to be a BD-R of the surround sound mix (DTS Audio Preview copy). I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Is this something to tide us over until the official release comes out, or is this it? [I can't remember now what I signed up for - I thought it was the CD version...]

Mine arrived yesterday too. What with the holidays I have not listened to anything yet.

Over two years in production, wow.

After a moment of head-scratching, I recalled hearing this - or large excerpts of it - played at the time of release on our local "classic rock" radio station - once again showing how times have changed. I remember them having a mini-special featuring the then newly arrived Cinema label, which seemed to attract a lot of attention as well as a certain amount of sneering criticism. For whatever reason, it did not survive, though I think its legacy can be found in labels like Kscope,

The Interstellar Suite itself was well executed, but a little too overblown for my tastes. Something I did pick up that was released on Cinema at around the same time was Pete Bardens - Seen One Earth.

Well, I had signed up for the book with my name in it. While the production took place they changed directions to go for the Pure Audio Blu Ray spec in stead of the DVD. But after a long time they went back to the DVD format. In March this year I had received a DVD (DTS audio preview) which already had the 5.1 surround mix. So now, after another long time, the package arrived with the book, t-shirt and the same DVD, which is somewhat confusing. I also got his albums "Virtuality" (with Patrick Moraz and Steve Porcaro) and the 2003 remaster from "The Interstellar Suite", the soundtracks for "CodeName > Eternity" (for promotion only) and "John Woo's Once A Thief", a Japanese promo-single which includes the song "Dawn In The Forest" and a demo-recording called "Requests From The Vault", which includes the latter track too (this time called "Evolutions") plus 11 other tracks. Oh, and there was a USB-stick with this demo-album and the Suite as well.

I've asked Armin if the DVD in the carboard sleeve is the official release of the 25th Anniversary Edition in Surround Sound.

I just listened to the surround mix version of "Planets - Ultimate Edition" (2011) and I must say there are quite a few moments in which I heard the same kind of sounds and effects as on Bhatia's album.
    B.t.w. I haven't heard Tomita's original album from 1976, but I do have Holst's own classical version.
