Diagonal - The Second Mechanism WOW!

No disrespect to Anglagard but this one is my pick for prog rock album of the year:

Well thanks to this thread, I just did pick it up. Can't wait to hear it. I just got the first one and wasn't fond of the vocals, but I've never been fond of those proto-prog vox anyway. Once I read that this was mostly instrumental, I jumped.

I agree with Ken's assessment. It's one of the great progressive rock albums of this year and it surpasses their (also extremely good) first album.

Wowser! First good, loud listen this morning (received yesterday).

Really dig the clarinet on the second track. Nice blend of repetition and groove.

Just gonna give this thread a bump. This is a very strong disc that has grown on me with repeated listens. I hardly do the prog thing anymore but this one still gets into the rotation.

I think this is a great album. A bit more spacey, with some Gongish undertones compared to their also excellent first album. I read something somewhere from one of the members that said they really didn't feel there is a "scene" for this type of progressive music and they find it really hard to get gigs. Quite depressing but also true. The new 12,000 capacity Hydro arena in Glasgow sold out Fleetwood Mac tickets in a couple of hours. I've been to some of the best gigs of my life recently in some very small venues with little more than 2 men and a dog. It's brilliant that music as good as this is still being produced now, but I wonder how sustainable the recent surge in new progressive music is. Apart from outlets that preach to the coverted, albums like this will get absolutely no promotion.
