No mention of: Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues ? (I prefer Remain In Light, which made your 1980 list, but you can't escape the gigantic impact in music this one had in '83.) Almost as ubiquitous and popular as your "5-10 plays: Bowie, David - Let's Dance"
"Wouldn't it be odd, if there really was a God, and he looked down on Earth and saw what we've done to her?" -- Adrian Belew ('Men In Helicopters')

No mention by anyone of another winner of the most popular & ubiquitous 'rock-pop' album of 1983, The Police - Synchronicity ? (probably fits under the "10-20 plays" category)
"Wouldn't it be odd, if there really was a God, and he looked down on Earth and saw what we've done to her?" -- Adrian Belew ('Men In Helicopters')

The Neil Young album is called Everybody's Rockin'; The Shocking Pinks was the backing group he used for said album. The Billy Idol album is Rebel Yell, and 90125 is the Yes album.

lemme guess... you're Canadian ... Your list sounds very much of the mainstream pop-rock buyer from the Great White North...

Yes I'm Canadian, and in 1983 I was working a national franchise record shop in a subrban mall, thus the mainstream music while listening at work. That Red Rider Neruda lp was good.

Most of these albums / Cds were not heard in the actual year... Lets Dance I got in my local ASDA along with a double re-recording of John Barry Soundtracks for about a tenner. Afaic, Talking Heads and The Police put out singles, not albums and I never went overboard on any single by Talking Heads. Bowie was too fashion conscious for me while Hammill and Gabriel, I hoped, wouldn't pander to the current trends.

Thanks bill, your plays range is fine by me... some albums from say, Magma and Weather Report, take at least 20 plays before my brain says Eureka!

True, and also in 1983 there were not a whole lot of new music that I was connecting with, like today. So the fewer new music I had got a lot more plays. Today, my favorites rarely get more than 10, which is kind of sad. I know even the last Anglagard hasn't had 10 plays.
